On My Radar: Michael Connelly's The Night Fire

If you've followed me here on Kittling: Books for a while, you know that I became a huge fan of Michael Connelly's Renée Ballard in The Late Show, and I loved it when she teamed up with Harry Bosch in Dark Sacred Night. So... it follows that, when I learned of the newest Renée Ballard/Harry Bosch book, I danced a little jig here in the office.

Now that I'm done dancing (and am icing my knees), I just have to share the news with all of you so you can keep an eye out for it, too. Here we go!

Available October 22, 2019!
Synopsis:

"Back when Harry Bosch was just a rookie homicide detective, he had an inspiring mentor who taught him to take the work personally and light the fire of relentlessness for every case. Now that mentor, J.J. Thompson, is dead, but after his funeral his widow hands Bosch a murder book that Thompson took with him when he left the LAPD 20 years before -- the unsolved killing of a troubled young man in an alley used for drug deals.

Bosch brings the murder book to Renée Ballard and asks her to help him find what about the case lit Thompson's fire all those years ago. That will be their starting point.

The bond between Bosch and Ballard tightens as they become a formidable investigation team. And they soon arrive at a worrying question: Did Thompson steal the murder book to work the case in retirement, or to make sure it never got solved?
"

Sounds like another barnburner, doesn't it? I can't wait to get my hands on The Night Fire, and I know that there are some of you reading this who feel the same way. There's nothing like the anticipation of a great read, is there?

  1. Michael Connelly is one of those authors who consistently offers a great read, Cathy. I never feel completely let down by his work, and this one sounds like an intriguing teaming-up of Bosch and Ballard.

  4. By the way, Bosch Season 5 began on April 19 on Amazon Prime, if you have it.
It's excellent. Much of it is in the book "Two Kinds of Truth."
The cast is superb, as usual.

    1. Denis and I love "Bosch." I'd binge watch it but have to restrain myself and only watch it on Denis's days off.
