This photo of the solar fountain that my niece Daisy helped me to install should be familiar to many of you. And although you didn't say a word, most of you probably thought that, compared to the blue pottery fountain in the bed of rosemary, this one looked more than a bit stark.
I didn't want to dig holes and plant things because that grass would just come back and I'd find myself bent over almost everyday pulling the stuff up. Nope. Been there, done that. Ain't doin' it again.
Neither did I want to have plants in pots around the fountain. In this climate container gardens die whenever Denis and I go out of town. I don't like being a plant killer.
So... I had to think of something else. I've purchased some solar-powered lights to put around Daisy's Fountain. Granted they won't shine during the day, but they certainly do look pretty at night. Daisy's Fountain has rechargeable batteries hooked up to the solar panel, which means that the fountain can run at night when the sun isn't shining. It also has LED lights. I think it was those LED lights that gave me the idea for the solar-powered pretties.
I'm still waiting on one of my purchases to be delivered so what you are about to see is not the final version, but I thought you'd like to see why it's pretty and peaceful to sit outside at night and listen to the water and watch the color of the lights change.

In the back, you can see two of the three solar-powered crackle glass globes. The bright white light at the front is the fountain light, and you can see the water bubbling up.

I love crackle glass! We have banks of large solar panels on the roof, and now we have a solar-powered corner in the garden. Only fitting for being out in the Arizona sun, right?
Once I receive the other goodies I ordered, is anyone interested in seeing the final result?
What a beautiful idea, Cathy! And it looks terrific! I'll be interested in seeing what it all looks like when it's done. Oh, and I'm with you about pulling weeds!
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't mind pulling weeds if they stayed pulled, but they keep coming back. They never take a hint! LOL
DeleteI'd love to see it. And love the idea of the fountain and lights.
ReplyDeleteIt's really nice to sit out there in the evening. So far we don't seem to have a problem with any mo... ack! Ain't gonna say it. I don't want to jinx myself!
DeleteLove the butterflies, where did you get them?
ReplyDeleteFrom Amazon. Just did a search for solar lights in Lawn & Patio.
DeleteThese made a lovely difference. I'd love to see the finished product!
ReplyDeleteOkie dokie! :-)
DeleteThe butterflies are lovely. I'd love to see the finished product, too.
ReplyDeleteAnd I can understand why plants need constant attention in the Arizona heat, particularly.
I'm careful to only have native or drought tolerant plants here, but the dirt in any size container just dries out much too quickly to leave them unattended for any length of time.
