On My Radar: Ellen Crosby's Blow Up!

It doesn't seem to matter what Ellen Crosby writes, I like it. Crosby writes two series. One is the Wine Country mysteries set in Virginia, the first book of which is The Merlot Murders, but it's her second series that I found first. This second series features photojournalist Sophie Medina who's based in Washington, DC, and for the longest time, it had only two books: Multiple Exposure and Ghost Image. In fact, my dismay over the fact that there were only two Sophie books led me to sampling her Wine Country mysteries.

There are two words that I would use to describe Crosby's writing: intelligent and compelling, so you can imagine my surprise and delight when I learned that there will be a third Sophie Medina mystery. Let me tell you more about it!

Available May 2, 2023!

Synopsis:

"International photojournalist Sophie Medina and her old school friend Father Jack O’Hara are out for a run on Capitol Hill when they find the body of Associate Supreme Court Justice Everett Townsend lying in an alley, barely alive. Townsend, a diabetic, later dies in the ER from complications due to hypoglycemia.

His tragic death has unexpected repercussions for Sophie when Javi, a young homeless man of Sophie’s acquaintance, is murdered. Before he died, Javi told her a shocking story about Townsend that could have a devastating impact on the nation’s highest court – and on the American justice system – if word got out.

Unable to persuade anyone that what she learned is true and on the run from whoever is protecting Townsend’s dark secret, Sophie searches a collection of her photographs of Washington D.C.’s homeless community, looking for evidence before everything blows up in her face . . .

I am really looking forward to reading Blow Up, and I urge any of you who aren't already acquainted with Ellen Crosby's books to pick up one-- from either of her series-- and read it. If you enjoy intelligent, compelling characters and stories, you're going to like these books as much as I do!

  1. This does sound interesting, Cathy. I like a solid female protagonist, and sign me up for intelligent plots any time! I give Crosby credit, too, for doing two solid series; that's got to be a difficult job!
