It's been an exhausting week here at Casa Kittling. We're still fighting to get Denis's pain medications sorted out, and seeing someone I love so dearly in such terrible pain hurts in a way I cannot describe.
It seems as though we've gone from being hermits to being the hottest ticket in town. Infusion nurses, physical therapists, thrice-weekly drug deliveries, phones ringing. Wheelchair rental. Wheelchair transport to doctor appointments. Grocery deliveries. Other essential deliveries. Attempts to speed up getting the home help that we need. Being at the beck and call of the antibiotics schedules, and getting very little sleep. It's all going to be worth it to get Denis back to his normal ornery self. One evening he actually smiled and joked and his eyes weren't filled with pain. Just seeing that made my eyes fill with tears.
Pardon me. I'm just tired.
And while all this is going on, it's spring, glorious spring. The windows and doors are open, the house smells like blooming things and is filled with birdsong. Amidst all the hubbub, there is beauty.
A very few of my Tombstone roses in bloom right now. |

That's all for this week! Don't forget to stop by next Friday when I'll be sharing a freshly selected batch of links for your surfing pleasure.
Stay safe. Stay healthy. And don't forget to curl up with a good book!
I can only imagine how tiring it all must be, Cathy. And you're right; there is nothing worse than watching someone you love suffer. Add to that the constant parade of people and deliveries, and I can see how you're tapped out. I hope you get the chance to rest and really take in the spring this weekend. I'm off to that Sicilian temple, myself...
ReplyDeleteEnjoy!
DeleteYour roses are beautiful and what a welcome sight! Daffodils shoots are just coming up! Take care and hope the next week goes well.
ReplyDeleteThings are beginning to look up a bit, thankfully.
DeleteHearing about all that you are going through and then seeing Denis look at you without pain in his eyes brought tears to my eyes. I'm praying that you will both have relief soon!
ReplyDeleteThose roses are absolutely gorgeous. It sure doesn't feel like spring where I am. We had snow yesterday and it has been dreary for days. The forecasters tell us that tomorrow will bring sunny skies and warmer weather. I am looking forward to that! I hope you both are able to get some rest this weekend.
We have been able to get some rest here and there, but then I find myself having to do things like drag 100+ lbs. of electric scooter into the house. I'm developing some excellent upper body strength!
DeleteWhat beautiful roses.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry that Denis is still suffering and that you are so tired keeping up with everything. I hope that this, too, shall pass -- and soon for both of your sakes.
Meanwhile, thanks for the links. I have to study many of them. The book banning stories boggle my mind. The Grapes of Wrath was one of the first books to deepen my thinking, along with The Jungle.
So many good stories here. But what I want to know is why are there not more dogs at dentists' offices?
With their talents, there should be more dogs in doctors' offices.
DeleteThink of how much dental anxiety would be alleviated by nice dogs.
ReplyDeleteYep!
