It's always a cause for rejoicing when one of my favorite authors, Ann Cleeves, has a new book coming out, and when I learned that the new book featured Vera Stanhope, my Happy Dance was a bit wilder. I love Vera! Then I read more about the book and got even more enthusiastic. I'll tell you about that later. Right now I want to share more about the book itself!
Available in the US on September 6, 2022! |
Synopsis:
"For fifty years a group of friends have been meeting regularly for
reunions on Holy Island, celebrating the school trip where they met,
and the friend that they lost to the rising causeway tide five years
later. Now, when one of them is found hanged, Vera is called in.
Learning that the dead man had recently been fired after misconduct
allegations, Vera knows she must discover what the friends are hiding,
and whether the events of many years before could have led to murder
then, and now . . .
But with the tide rising, secrets long-hidden are finding their way to the surface, and Vera and the team may find themselves in more danger than they could have believed possible . . ."

Naturally, it sounds like another good'un from Cleeves, but what got me extra excited when I read the synopsis? The book is partially set on Lindisfarne-- also known as Holy Island-- and I've crossed that causeway and explored the island. I'm really looking forward to reading The Rising Tide because I know that not only am I going to be reading an excellent mystery, but I'm also going to be reliving a memory or two. (The US cover is very reminiscent of the causeway to Lindisfarne.)
Another good thing about Cleeves' books is that the UK and US release dates are very close together. The Rising Tide is available in the UK on September 1, and we Americans only have to wait until September 6 to get the US edition. I don't mind waiting when the release dates are so close together, greedy Cleeves-loving magpie that I am!
I know I'm not the only Cleeves fan on the interwebs, so I'm picturing many of you doing your own Happy Dances at this news.
Oooh, a new Vera Stanhope novel! That's always something to look forward to, I think. She is a great character, although I don't always like her, if that makes sense.
ReplyDeleteIt makes perfect sense; Cleeves has made her real.
DeleteHappy Dance in progress!
ReplyDeleteI promise I won't take any pictures.
DeleteSounds like a good one and that cover is gorgeous with all that violet. Interesting to know that the cover is reminiscent of the actual place. I always wonder about that.
ReplyDeleteSo do I!
DeleteYep, this made my day. I'm blessed,I think, to be so far behind on reading all the various Cleeves series, but knowing another Vera Stanhope one is coming put a big smile on my face.
ReplyDeleteGood! :-)
DeleteOh, happy days! I thought she had given up on Vera. I'm currently reading and enjoying the Shetland series, but I'll be glad to interrupt that for Vera. We just finished watching the latest Vera series on television, so now they'll have even more material for another series! (I hope.)
ReplyDeleteMe, too! (And I love the Vera TV series.)
DeleteOoh, another one to look forward to! Even without knowing about the setting, I thought that cover worked well with the title, so I'm glad to learn that it's appropriate for the story's location as well.
ReplyDeleteI don't often get to have an expert opinion on book covers! LOL
