Before you think "putting in the miles" means that I've left the premises and gone somewhere, think again. I've been putting in time every day on the new exercise machine and almost immediately began experiencing benefits. When it looked as though Denis thought bringing the thing inside and putting it together was the sum total of his involvement, I gave him a gentle nudge (honest!), and now he's fallen under its spell, too. The machine is closely related to the one I was using at the lymphedema clinic only better, and I'm not just talking about the price.
It's amazing how quickly a pool can cool off here in the desert. We actually had a couple of days with temperatures below 100° combined with three to four days of overcast skies due to the smoke from poor California. When you combine those two things with the fact that this is the exact time of year that the sun's position in the sky changes, all of a sudden, yikes! The pool water turned cold. Denis was in the habit of going for a swim when he got home from work. Last week, he was back in the house in slightly less than a minute. "My knees wouldn't let me go in any further!" he told me. Thus endeth another season, and I'll end this with another t-shirt, which would be completely true if only someone had added "Books"...

I'm so glad you're already seeing benefits from using your new exercise equipment. I found that when I started working out, too. It doesn't take much time per day/week to really see some health benefits. Oh, and I love that tank top! And now, I want to explore Montezuma Castle...
ReplyDeleteIt's a fascinating place, Margot.
DeleteHard to believe pool season may be over already! And glad the equipment is something you both like!
ReplyDeleteWe had some hazy mornings this week, with striking sunrises (yes, I head into work that early!). But sadly, it was due to the smoke from the fires.
Yes, we've had some spectacular sunrises and sunsets here, too, for the same reason.
DeleteGood for Dennis on discovering the new exercise equipment benefits him as well! Another great link round-up!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteI took that bookshelf quiz, too, with the same results: slow reader. I won't quarrel with that too much, but the reading habits it described in the little write-up are so far off base that they made me laugh. One books at a time? I can't even imagine that...
ReplyDeleteThe squirrel video reminded me of the couple of years I ate lunch at the same park table five days a week, usually alone because of the odd hour that I could work in the break. The same little squirrel started shyly visiting me to see if I would throw it a few scraps. And I did. Then, over time, it crept up closer and closer to the table and finally figured out it would get more food if it took it from my hand. Before it was over, the little guy was climbing onto the table top, sitting in one corner, and calmly waiting to share my lunch with me. Then one day...no squirrel...and I never saw it again. I really missed him for a long time.
Yes, that "one book at a time" in the description was where it veered way off the trail for me, too.
DeleteI would have missed the squirrel, too. When I was little, there was a family of squirrels in the maple tree out front, and one year, one of the little ones was too curious about me. It wasn't long before he (Perry) was coming right up on the porch to take food from my hand. I thought that was the greatest thing.
Congratulations to you and Denis for using that formidable equipment. And so glad you feel better.
ReplyDeleteI wish that tank top said "books and chocolate," my two go-tos at times of stress.
I also tested as a "slow reader," but rarely read one book at a time nor do I fit into a lot of the descriptions fo this type of reader. I just happen to like certain types of bookshelves!
Lots of good links as usual. Love ones on animals, women writers and book lists, in particular.
I am now mourning the loss of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, an amazing woman and justice. The movie about her, "On the Basis of Sex," is terrific.

DeleteYes, me, too, and at the same time a very good 40-plys year friend is in a hospice, after a massive stroke. Prognosis: poor. So between the two of them, strong, bright, driven women are lost to us.
ReplyDeleteYou and your friend are in my thoughts, Kathy. *HUG*
DeleteGlad you are both using your new exercise equipment! Forming the habit is the hardest part. Once the habit is formed, you just do it because it's the next thing.
ReplyDeleteWe are much farther away from the fires here in Wisconsin, but we also had haze and gorgeous sunsets and sunrises this week. And it is definitely fall here with beautiful trees well on their way to changing color.
Have a good weekend!
You, too!
DeleteI read that the smoke from all those fires reached all the way to the Netherlands.
Thanks, Kathy. Reading is distracting me a bit. Started Shaw's Grave's End.
ReplyDeleteMy friend Sue would have been devastated about Ruth Bader Ginsberg.
