Ever since I stumbled across an episode of Hoarders and watched for five horrified minutes, I've refused to call my habit of accumulating more books than I can read "hoarding." No, "stockpiling" is now my word of choice. Since I now find myself reading more and more eBooks, I thought you might be interested in the digital books I find myself stockpiling each month.
Have I turned my back on print? Heavens no! I literally grew up in a library. There is no way that I would ever turn my back on physical books. However, I had one wrist in a brace for a few months and with all the eye problems I've had lately, it's much easier for me to use my Kindle than it is for me to read a physical book. Kindles (and other eReaders) also have the ability to increase or decrease the amount of light on the screen as well as to enlarge the font size.
I do have help when it comes to stockpiling eBooks. I subscribe to both Early Bird Books and Book Bub. Both of them send me emails about special prices on eBooks in my targeted genres. Of the two, I find myself grabbing bargains from Book Bub more often because they do a very good job of finding out what I like to read. Do any of you subscribe to similar email services that you would recommend? Please let me know in the comments!
I purchased twenty eBooks last month. I'm going to list the title, author, genre/subgenre, and a link to Amazon. If I gave you the synopses to all of them, you'd be scrolling forever!

Whew! I'm glad the month wasn't any longer-- who knows how many eBooks I would've purchased! Were you tempted by any of the titles on my list? Which ones? Inquiring minds would love to know!
I use my Kindle more these days too. The font size and honestly, the idea that I can have scads of books at my beck and call whenever. However, I don't think of it as hoarding either. Those shows - whew! My tidy little heart can't take them. I do still read in print, but it's a lot less than it used to be. I used to subscribe to Bookbub, but I decided to take a step back. I was picking up too many books. Several of the ones you have listed here are appealing and I own a few. I know that many people say they will never leave print books or even convert much, but then I think 'wait until your eyes have problems...'. Great list, Cathy!
ReplyDeleteThere are three main things that put me in favor of eBooks: (1) I prefer receiving ARCs in digital format, (2) eye problems, and (3) packing when going on a trip!
DeleteI love having my Kindle, Cathy. Among many other things, it lets me take a lot of my TBR pile with me if/when I travel, which is nice. And, yes, that tottering TBR isn't as obvious when it's electronic, is it... ;-) I do love print books, and always will. But... You've got some nice titles there; I hope you'll enjoy them.
ReplyDeletePre-Kindle, I always packed my books first and hoped that I had room left in the suitcase for my toothbrush and clean undies. (Only a slight exaggeration...)
DeleteI use Book Bub too. My favorite is Kindle Daily Deals from Amazon. It comes through as a daily email. Some books are one day only. Others are for the month. Those are broken down into mystery, literature and history etc. Usually the prices are $1.99. Book Bub has many of the same books but there are more offered on the Amazon Daily Deals emails.
ReplyDeleteI must not be doing something right with Amazon because usually Book Bub's selections for me are much more on target.
