Daisy at the Phoenix Zoo & Desert Botanical Garden

One of the first outings we made while Daisy was visiting was to the Phoenix Zoo and the Desert Botanical Garden. After all, they're on the same road and in close proximity to each other. There were other trips that we had planned, but after looking at the weather forecast for the coming days, I knew we'd have to cancel a plan or two and switch some others around. (Snow in the mountains.)

We all enjoyed ourselves-- so much so that we all wound up going to bed much earlier than planned that night. Having fun out in the desert sun can do that to you! (We wore hats and sunscreen and carried bottles of water with us, in case any of you are worry warts.)

A selection of the photos taken that day follows. If you'd like to see any of them full size, just left click on one and a new window will automatically open for you to do so. Enjoy!

Daisy loved Stingray Bay at the Phoenix Zoo.

But she discovered that camels aren't the most comfortable critters to ride.

I could swear I was being watched.

I think the giraffe was keeping an eye on me, too.

An egret and its chick.

Lots of flowers-- like this hibiscus-- in bloom at the Zoo.

In the Butterfly Pavilion at the Desert Botanical Garden, a Painted Lady mistook Daisy's tattoo for the real thing.

Hope you enjoyed our visit. I know we did!

  1. Really impressive. That young woman is fearless! Sting rays?
    Yikes.

So glad you had so much fun and also thanks for the lovely photos of those flowers.

Are you trying to convince Daisy to go to school in Arizona?

    1. Stingrays are fun. Daisy's not the only one who's loved Stingray Bay.

No, we're not trying to convince Daisy to do anything. She's got her own plans, which involve qualifying to be an EMT, and I do think she's seriously thinking about living in a country other than England. I don't know where, but I do know that it will be warm and have plenty of sun.

  2. Wonderful pics of the animals and flowers. I especially like seeing the cactus blooms, so pretty and unlike things up North!

  3. What gorgeous, gorgeous 'photos, Cathy. I'm so glad you had such a good experience. The camel picture reminded me of when our daughter celebrated her birthday at the Philadelphia Zoo when she was very young. We took camel rides that day - my first and, thus far, only camel ride!

    1. I've read too much about camels to be tempted to go for a ride on one of them! LOL

  4. Like Margot, my daughter was the one that got me on a camel as well. It was over 30 years ago and at the zoo in Denver. I knew that camels and I would not be travelling companions. Ha!

Love the pictures. Know you guys had such a good time. Daisy has some great goals and know she will be an awesome EMT one day. Our prickly pears are blooming right now too. I don't have any in my yard, but others in the neighborhood do. Beautiful.

    1. Yes, they are. Denis has a new camera, so we're heading to the Desert Botanical Garden in a few to try it out. I'm bringing Old Faithful (although now I've got an itch to get myself a new one).
