I've never met housework that I couldn't at least attempt to avoid, but there are some cleaning-type chores that I don't consider chores. Like reorganizing my bookshelves. A few weeks ago, I confronted the closet and my underbed storage containers and behaved as though I were Sherman marching through Georgia. I was ruthless, and when I was finished, everything was hanging neatly on the closet rail with room to spare, the shelf above was empty, and my out-of-season clothing filled only two of the five large underbed storage containers.
This happens. My reading tastes do change, and what I fancied six years ago may hold no interest for me today. So... it was time to march through those TBR shelves and give them a thorough weeding. How do I march? On a wheeled backless stool. I glide more than I march.
Now I have a lot of clothing and books to donate, and breathing space on my shelves again. I must be doing a better job than in the past because my shelves used to become filled to overflowing in much less time than six years!
But I really need to stop feeling smug and get out to the corral. Those links sure do get restless! Head 'em up! Mooooooooooove 'em out!

I admire you, Cathy, for going through your things like that. It's especially hard to do with books, isn't it? Oh, and your bookshelves are beautiful! Now, off to Luxor...
ReplyDeleteI think both of us will be keeping an eye on Luxor!
DeleteI think we're kindred spirits on the cleaning issue. For some reason, I like to vacuum, but there's always better to do than all other kinds of cleaning.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on going through your clothes and books to give to others.
I was born to have maids. Unfortunately, I wasn't given the budget for them.
DeleteThe bookshelves are wonderful and everything looks so neat and tidy.
ReplyDeleteI have very tall bookshelves and have books and pottery and other things interspersed around the shelves. It looks very nice. However, I am not one to dust and clean the shelves and everything on them.
I don't know how anyone does it, but yours look like they're in perfect order and condition.
Thanks, Kathy, although I do have to admit that taking the photo from a distance means that you can't see the dust that I had yet to remove. I have a friend who says that dust is a protective coating. I like the way she thinks.
