Guess Where I'm Going to Be!

When I learned that Left Coast Crime was going to be here in Phoenix, I was torn by indecision...

I don't like crowds.

--Okay. Get over yourself! This is probably a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and you'll really get to see what's going on instead of reading someone else's recaps. Besides, Left Coast Crime is a bit smaller than Bouchercon or Malice Domestic.

I'm a newbie and really don't want to go by myself.

--Waah! Put on your big girl panties. You'll know some of the authors who are attending, and what about that email you got from a fellow book blogger who didn't want to go it alone either. Partner up!

It's in downtown Phoenix. Where am I going to park so I don't have to trudge miles to get to the place (or take out a loan to pay the fees)?

--You liked that taxi in London, didn't you? Suck it up!

My indecision really didn't last all that long, especially when I got the email from Kay. I'm really looking forward to it now, although I have another worry to contend with. I absolutely wrecked my knees during our September trip to the UK, and unless a miracle occurs, I'm probably facing surgery on both. But, hey. I'll take my cane (which does double duty as a monopod for my camera) and hobble along.

So if you happen to be going to Left Coast Crime, too, and you see a tallish, bespectacled woman with short white hair, a black cane, and a book bag or two, come over and say hello!

  3. Oh you are going to have a BLAST! I went to the LCC covention in Portland last year. It was a big leap for me because I was going all by myself and didn't know a soul who would be there.I just knew I wouild kick myself for not going since it was right in my hometown. I am a socially anxious introvert with crowd issues and I had the best time. I learned that mystery writers are absolutely hilarious. I am going to send you an email of tips from a former first timer.

    1. And I certainly appreciated those tips-- thank you!!

You made me realize another reason I needn't've agonized over going or not going: I am truly blessed to have The Poisoned Pen here, since I've become acquainted with a few mystery writers and already know how well-developed their senses of humor are!

  4. I won't say that your knees won't notice what's going on, but you'll probably be too busy to pay all that much attention to them. Hope you have fun! And wear the knee braces...

    1. I'm undecided about those knee braces. The last couple of times I wore them, they seemed to cause more problems than they did help.

On the bright side, I changed around the sort of glucosamine I've been taking, and lo! the pain is considerably lessened! (Knock wood.)

    1. I'm usually reading recaps about these things. It will make a change for me to be one of the ones actually writing about one!

    1. It's a convention of crime fiction authors, Judy. THAT is why I'm excited! (And I'm getting more excited the closer it gets! LOL)
