Scene of the Blog Featuring Jeanie of Too Many Books, Too Little Time!

This week you're going to meet Jeanie of Too Many Books, Too Little Time. I love this book blogger's header photo and her caption, "For People Who Don't Have Time to Read Bad Books."

Jeanie's blog design is clean and simple, letting her content shine. She reads an eclectic mix of books, talks about book awards lists, what she's reading on her Droid, and will stop to ask if anyone else has had trouble reading a book she's having a difficult time wading through.

If you haven't had the pleasure of checking out Jeanie and her blog Too Many Books Too Little Time, please take the time to do so now and say hello while you're there. You'll be glad you did!

Before we start ooohing and ahhhing over Jeanie's creative spaces, don't forget that you can click on any of the photos to view them full size. Take it away, Jeanie!

Jeanie's home office

When my daughter was married five years ago, the first thing I did was to commandeer her bedroom and turn it into a home office for myself. I absolutely agree with Virginia Woolf – every woman needs a room of her own! I had a lot of fun painting and furnishing this room, the one place in the house where I get to have everything MY way. This is where I do my writing, blogging, social networking, etc. I love the big window above my desk, which gives me lots of natural light AND allows me to watch the world go by.

Although I couldn’t convince them to pose for the picture, when I’m in this room I’m usually accompanied by my border collie, Josie, and golden retriever, Nelson. Since I retired last June, we form a pretty tight pack!

The little bookcase

This is my “little” bookcase, which fits perfectly in the tiny alcove in my office. It’s where I keep TBR books, books that I especially love and like to visit, and most of my writing reference books. The baskets on the bottom are where I store the magazines from which – I swear – I will one day cut all the recipes and articles I want to keep.

Jeanie's reading chair
This is my favorite place to read – in the armchair that used to belong to my mother. When, like today, it’s cold enough for a fire (not too often, living in Southern California) it’s the best! I should mention that the beautiful flowers you see on the table aren’t an everyday occurrence.  These were a Valentine’s Day surprise from my wonderful husband. The pictures on the mantel are my 8-month old grandson (my first and only). The quilt behind the chair was made by my talented sister, Ann.

The big bookcase
Until about two months ago, this bookcase was crammed to the top with books. It was time to paint, so we emptied the shelves and made a major donation to the local library. I miss seeing it filled with books, but I know it won’t be long before our trips to our local indie bookstore, Laguna Beach Books, take care of that problem.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this little mini-tour of my home. I feel so fortunate to have space dedicated to my favorite pastimes – reading and writing! Many thanks to Cathy for giving me this opportunity to share!

The pleasure is all mine, Jeanie, because I had to wear a bib while I drooled over your photos! I love your home office by the window... the fire screen...  the quilt... the fact that you read in your mother's chair... that big coffee table... the big bookcase flanking the stairs.... It's too bad that the Alpha female couldn't get Josie and Nelson to pose for a picture, but give them both a scratch behind the ears anyway.

Thank you so much for taking the time to show us your creative spaces. We really appreciate it!

Don't forget to stop by next Wednesday when I'll be featuring yet another book blogger in our worldwide community. See you then!

  1. Your home office looks so nice and white. Did you clean up before taking the picture, or are you always so organised. It looks really nice and your reading chair is one I wouldn't get out off for a while, once I was settled down, I think!

  2. Believe me, some tidying up was necessary! I try to be well-organized, but you can see my desktop is fairly small and things can stack up pretty quickly.

My reading chair is unbelievably comfortable. So much so that I sometimes find myself "reading" with my eyes closed! LOL!

  3. " reading with my eyes closed" . . . that's the way my husband watches tv at times except he adds snoring. Your space is fantastic!

  5. @Kaye, when my husband "reads" that way, he snores, too. Thanks for visiting!
@Bermudaonion, I have to admit I tidied up for company! My desk is often buried under piles of papers.

  6. This looks like such a welcoming home, a place you could sit and chat and feel right at home. I like the light and soft colors. Thanks for giving us a view.

  7. Thanks, Rural View - feel free to visit when you're in SoCal! I forgot to mention that my father made the coffee table. It weighs a TON - Dad never did anything by halves!

  8. I too noticed how neat and organized everything looked :) I love that desk!! Over the next 2 years both of my older daughters will be moving on to college. While I know I won't be ready to take over their spaces at first, eventually I have some ideas for creating my own space as well :)

  9. I love your beautiful, white furniture!

I have a room of my own, but it is too far away from my family so I always write and blog in our living-room right in the middle of our every-day chaos.

  10. @Peppermint, I waited through 4 years of my daughter's undergrad, 1 year of grad school, and 2 years of living at home after grad school, so I know what you mean about not being ready. I can assure you that the wait will be worth it! Good luck getting your room of your own!
@Dorte, you are a BRAVE soul!!! I can hardly hear myself thin when I'm in the middle of our everyday chaos.
Thanks to you both for your nice comments!

  11. Great pictures! I love seeing where one of my favorite blogs is created.

The baskets of magazines made me laugh -- I have the same thing going. "Someday" I'll clip the recipes, travel articles, etc.
