Reading this article about the Moskva book shop in Moscow celebrating its fiftieth year brought a tear to my eye and gladness to my heart knowing that I'm a reader in America, not Russia. It hasn't been an easy half century for the book shop. There were the years when books were strictly rationed to a public thirsting for the printed page. There were the years when the Russian people didn't have money for food, let alone books. But Moskva, with the help of its patrons, has survived.
I hope it does for at the very least another half century!
