After much deliberation, I decided to throw caution to the wind and head to my favorite bookstore, The Poisoned Pen, for an author event. It had probably been three years since the last time I'd gone. That time, Denis and I wound up being stranded for two and a half hours on a cold, wet, dark street corner waiting for Paratransit to pick us up.
Since I am now flying solo, the thought of being stranded alone and in the dark had little appeal for me, but since this event was in July with warmer temperatures and longer daylight hours, I decided that enough was enough! I was going, blast it!
I am so glad I did! It was so good to chat with Patrick and Barbara and local author Deborah Ledford as well. To be honest, it was like coming home.
One of the few good things that happened as a result of Covid is the fact that you can watch this event, too, either on The Poisoned Pen's Youtube channel, or on Facebook. I also highly recommend both of Weiden's books, Winter Counts and Wisdom Corner.
Did everything go smoothly transportation-wise? Getting there was fine. The return trip home was a different story, but you'll have to wait for the next weekly link round-up to get the scoop!

I'm so glad you went and had such a good time! And you obviously made it back home somehow. Can't wait to hear about that particular adventure. ;D
ReplyDeleteI'm just about ready to start writing it up!
DeleteI'm so glad you got to go! I know that visiting any bookstore makes me happy, so that is obviously magnified for you since you know the PP so well. I'm crossing my fingers that your story about getting home again doesn't keep you away from these events for another three years...
ReplyDeleteNope! I am determined to see Tim Sullivan next month. (Besides, I told Barbara that I would be there.)
DeleteGlad to hear it :)
DeleteSo glad you got the chance to go back to PP, Cathy. I know how much it means to you to go. And it sounds as though you had a good time and an enjoyable meeting with the author. But now, my stomach's lurching thinking of how you got home. I'll be eager to know what happened....
ReplyDeleteIt couldn't be too bad since I'm sitting here replying to comments!
DeleteI am so happy you decided to try going in person to the Pen again, Cathy. Glad the 'going-to' was OK, sorry the 'going-from' seems like it was an adventure. I know you enjoyed visiting with friends there and seeing the author event. Yes, I think it's good to tell people that you can watch those events on Youtube or Facebook. Many of them are also available as podcasts to listen to (that's what I do often).
ReplyDeleteI wish I could get more into doing things audio. Maybe one of these days...
DeleteIt's always great to spend time in our favorite bookstore, isn't it? And I'm so glad you got to do that. I look forward to reading more about your adventure.
ReplyDeleteI'm getting ready to pit the finishing touches on the post.
