Anyone who's been reading my blog for any length of time knows that I love Ann Cleeves' writing. I've even had the pleasure of meeting her a couple of times. Her Vera Stanhope series is a particular favorite of mine. The character of Vera is a treasure, and so is the setting of the series. Even the television series is extremely well done.
When I learned that there would be a new Vera book coming out this year, I just had to go out and pop a couple of wheelies on the driveway. Let me tell you about Vera's newest investigation so you can look forward to it, too!
Available August 27, 2024! |
Synopsis:
"The man’s body is found in the early morning light by a local dog
walker in the park outside Rosebank, a care home for troubled teens in
the coastal village of Longwater. The victim is Josh, a staff member,
who was due to work the previous night but never showed up.
DI Vera Stanhope is called out to investigate the death, with her only clue being the disappearance of one of the home's residents, fourteen year old Chloe Spence. Vera can’t bring herself to believe that a teenager is responsible for the murder, but even she can’t dismiss the possibility.
Vera, Joe and new team member Rosie Bell, are soon embroiled in the case, and when a second connected body is found near the Three Dark Wives monument in the wilds of the Northumberland countryside, superstition and folklore begin to collide with fact. Vera knows she has to find Chloe to get to the truth, and the dark secrets in their community that may be far more dangerous than she could have ever believed possible."

I'm really looking forward to joining Vera's investigation in the wilds of Northumberland (probably my favorite area of England) even though August seems a long way away. The Dark Wives is definitely something to look forward to, and I hope all of you put it on your own wish lists!
You say a new Ann Cleeves? You say a new Vera Stanhope? Yeah, my ears just pricked up. Cleeves is one of those authors who never disappoints (well, she doesn't disappoint me). Wonder what's ahead for Vera this time...
