Who Was That Masked Bird?

Scott's Oriole

This male Scott's Oriole and his missus kept a close eye on me one June when Denis and I were staying in our favorite cottage up in the Mule Mountains outside of Bisbee, Arizona. Cochise County (where Bisbee is located) is a birdlover's paradise.

Isn't he pretty?

  1. Oh, what a beautiful shot, Cathy! Wow! And such a handsome feller, too! Lucky you to make his acquaintance, and I hope you'll share other photos from your trip.

  4. Handsome bird. My sister and bro-in-law went to Ireland and sent me photos. He is a birder, so half the photos were of Irish birds. Nice ones there, too.

    1. I well remember climbing out of the rental car in the car park of the Seven Stars Inn in Hay-on-Wye on my first-ever trip to the UK. I was greeted with a chorus of birdsong, and I was thrilled because I didn't recognize a single note. I was looking forward to seeing and learning about the flora and fauna there.

  5. Lovely! I always think of orioles on the East Coast with me, so it's good to have the reminder about the ones who prefer Western climes.

    1. I'd always thought of them as eastern birds until I moved to Arizona and learned the error of my ways. I've seen more kinds of orioles here than I ever did back East.
