Western Tanager |
This pretty little bird is the Western Tanager. I've seen it several times in various parts of Arizona, including on the waterfall of my pool one summer. This photo was taken up in the Mule Mountains outside of Bisbee, Arizona, just a few miles from the Mexican border. Denis and I used to rent a cottage there for a week twice a year. During the week in the summer, I'd sit in the shade on the porch and be visited by all sorts of birds and lizards as well as mule deer. Cochise County, Arizona is a critter lover's paradise!
How beautiful, Cathy! And such a bright mix of red and yellow - makes you feel alive just looking at it!
ReplyDeleteIt certainly does!
DeleteLovely bird. Thinking of you and Denis when I hear the weather report -- and Phoenix is mentioned at record highs.
ReplyDelete119° today. The heat just leeches all the desire to move out of a person.
DeleteWonderful little bird!
ReplyDeleteYes! Seeing one always brightens my day.
DeleteIsn't that the cutest little bird? I love it! We had a friend here in Kerrville that went to Bisbee for a couple of weeks in June. I told him that we knew someone else who used to vacation there. I wasn't sure if June would be the right time, but I think they had a good trip.
ReplyDeleteBisbee's at a much higher elevation. Denis and I barely noticed the heat. It was a treat to be out of Phoenix.
DeleteOh, I love Western Tanagers! They visit the trumpet creeper in my backyard every so often in summer. Such cute birds. :D
ReplyDeleteYes, they are!
DeleteHow colorful! Hope you guys are managing alright in the heat.
ReplyDeleteSo far, so good. :-)
