A Cool & Happy Weekly Link Round-Up

The photo I'm sharing with you this week makes me so happy I could cry.

It's been a long, long, long time since Denis has looked so good... so well... so happy. Recently, he's shown more mobility almost daily. In fact, some days once he gets going, I feel like I'm trying to herd cats. It's annoying... until I think about how long it's been and what he's had to endure-- and then I smile.

While his mobility has improved, his level of pain had not. He went to see his spine surgeon Monday, and after talking with him, the surgeon said that Denis had arthritis in the same area as the site of the infection and the surgery and that he would prescribe an anti-inflammatory to see if that would help. The very next day, this photo shows the look on his face. The new prescription did the trick. (And a call to his daughter Kelly on Wednesday put an extra sparkle in his eyes.)

All this AND a 25-degree drop in temperature makes the Barlow B&B a happy place indeed! It's been a long time since I've had to wear a sweater. (Hey... when you've lived with 100°+ temperatures for four months, temperatures in the 70s feel positively arctic.)

Two thumbs up!

Have a great weekend, and enjoy the links!

  1. What a fabulous picture, Cathy! It's so hard to see a loved one suffer, and it's so wonderful when the pain eases. I'm so very happy for you both. Thanks for sharing. Now, I'm off to check out that mosaic...

  2. That is a great picture that made me chuckle. A person is not themself when they are in pain. I'm so glad Denis finally has some relief (and you too). Yes, a drop of 30+ degrees would feel quite cool. Where I live, we have a similar reaction when after 5 months of temperatures 30 degrees or below, some of us will wear shorts when it gets into the 40's 🙂. I can't say that I am one of them, but it is quite common. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

    1. Having grown up in central Illinois, I know exactly what you're talking about with the quick search for shorts when the temperature creeps up to a certain point.

  4. It hurts my heart to think of the evil it takes for someone to poison gray wolves. Hopefully, the perpetrator(s) will be caught and punished.

I've read most of those series on that thirteen detective series list but some of them I haven't and I'm adding them to my reading list.

Angela Lansbury. Always a favorite of mine. She will be missed.

  5. Happy tears are always good 🥲

Colleen Hoover is having a moment - I saw a video of a bookseller's remake of Dolly Parton's "Jolene' about CoHo's popularity (and with a good voice, too!).

    2. I don't remember who posted it - or what the bookstore is, which I really should have paid attention to!

    3. I'm not having much luck in my attempts to winkle the info out of Google. I'll give it a rest and try again later.

  6. Glad to see him looking so cheerful!

  7. Great links as always, although the book banning is so horrible. Gosh, one would think parents would want their children to learn about the world.
So glad to see Denis smiling. You must enjoy seeing that. Lots of links for me to read here.

    1. The more the world changes, the more people fear the change and want to drag everything back to a past where they believe things were safe and recognizable.

    2. And for millions of people, the past was not so good. Jim Crow segregation, women couldn't vote or hold many jobs, the torment of Indigenous people, blatant anti-Semitism, no labor unions or 8-hour day, and so much more. I can't figure out who wants to go back and to what?

    3. Believe me, Kathy, I don't understand it either.

  8. I know, but some people don't count to those who want to drag us back into the past.

  9. Well, the past is playing out again now. It's as if the Civil War hadn't happened and the North won and enslavement was made illegal.
