The He's Home! Weekly Link Round-Up

Although the rehab facility seemed to drag its feet when it came to bringing him home, Denis is home at last, and I can't begin to describe how good it is to have him back here where he belongs. He's given his new recliner a rave review, and we spent his first hours home going through the changes I've made, and moving things around a bit to better suit his needs. The morning following his arrival was a telephone blitz-- all sorts of places calling to check to see how he's doing. What? Did they think I was going to lace his coffee with arsenic or something? (I know... by law they have to check up on us.) Hopefully, we can get his schedule for physical therapy set up quickly.

The only other thing that has been going on is the Saga of the Kittling AC. Instead of three to four hours installing a new coil, it took them 7½ because they had to dismantle and rebuild a big section of the heat pump. (Naturally, the new coil wasn't the same size.) Then a few days later, I noticed that the laminate flooring around the heat pump was soggy. I immediately sent up a flare. Since this is the absolute worst time of year to get your AC repaired, they couldn't send out anyone until the next day. The twelve to four window stretched to 6:30 PM. The pump had packed it in and was sending all the water out to be soaked up by the flooring. He installed a temporary pump, and as of this writing, I'm waiting for them to call and schedule the installation of the "permanent" pump. And keeping a sharp eye on the soggy floor.

Before I send you on to the good stuff, I'll share a photo I took shortly after Denis's arrival Monday. Sometimes a picture is worth way more than a mere thousand words.

  1. Oh, I can't tell you how happy I am, Cathy, that Denis is back! It makes all the difference in the world, doesn't it? And he does look comfortable in that recliner. I hope he continues to make a good recovery. Oh, and I really hope your AC is fixed soon! What a nightmare, especially at this time of year. I hope you'll keep us updated. Meanwhile, I'm off to check out that galleon...

    1. It looks as though the new "permanent" pump won't be installed until next Thursday. The company is absolutely slammed with calls, and as long as cool air is coming out of the vents, my pump will be a lower priority for them. I may not like it, but people with no air at all should have priority.

    2. It is annoying, but you're right; people with no air at all need to go first. And at least you can be more or less cool for the next almost-week. Crossing fingers that your system stays stable until then!

    3. Thanks. I have a few of my own body parts crossed, too!

  2. Yay! I'm so glad Denis is back home. And hopefully they'll be able to get the pump on your AC permanently fixed soon. AC problems are the worst!

    1. I'm just happy that the AC didn't completely pack it in for Denis's arrival home. That would've been miserable!

  3. So glad Denis is home and he has improved. Funny about all those phone calls after the worst is over. Awful about the A/C, water, etc. I guess I'm glad I don't have a house and can all the very skilled custodian here.
And those links on book banning and on books to read will keep me busy for awhile.

    1. I just found another raft of book banning links. They're coming in so thick and fast that I could dedicate an entire link round-up just to them. But I don't think my blood pressure could take it (and I wouldn't want to do that to any of you either).

    2. My blood pressure is OK, but my mood would be affected. This is craziness to try to stifle students and others from learning. I grew up in a family where learning was prized, as was reading. I know you were. And also, we all have internet access, including students, and they can read about anything anyway. It's bigoted thinking and mind control. So bad.

    3. I never would have dreamed that fear and stupidity would get such a stranglehold on so many people.

    1. Sometimes I find myself just sitting in my chair looking over at him and smiling.

  5. That's a wonderful picture of Denis. It perfectly reveals his joy at being home. And lots of good links there. My favorites were the Catherine of Aragon one and the Louise Penny recommendations.

  8. So happy that Denis is home! And what a nice picture. He looks very glad to be in his new recliner. As to the A/C, my deepest sympathies and hope that all will be fixed next Thursday. I'm not surprised that the company is slammed. 'Tis the season, right? Take care!

  9. Thanks for the picture of Denis enjoying the new recliner. I love that he appears to have the remote control in his hand, lol!

This is not the right time of year to be without a properly working AC. Hopefully they have gotten it fixed by this time, so it's working without flooding your house. Just what you need, more expense, huh?

    1. Of course he has the remote in his hand! LOL

I'm waiting for the tech to come and install the new "permanent" pump right now. One of the many people beating a path to the door today. I feel like Carleton the Doorman.
