I've had a relatively quiet few days after all the hustle and bustle of last week. It's given me time to make up a final list of things I want to get done before Denis comes home. He's been working hard in his physical therapy sessions, and all his therapists and doctors are very happy with his progress. If all goes according to plan, he'll be home in a couple of weeks. Am I excited?
Nah.
The only thing I hadn't planned on adding to my to do list was scheduling a service call for the air conditioner which has decided to lackadaisically blow warm air instead of energetically blowing the cold stuff. Ah well. I'd much rather this happen with Denis out of the house. I react to heat much better than he does, and I know more than a few tricks on how to keep cool.
I'd like to say thank you to those of you who are sending me snail and e-mail. It's nice to have a few connections to the outside world even though I seem to have turned into a horrible correspondent. (Right, Mike?) And... "Secret Santa"? You may not know it, but you've just had the virtual stuffin' hugged out of you. I don't know what I did to deserve you, but I hope I keep on doing it.
On that note, I'll leave you with a photo I took a couple of summers ago when a female hooded oriole came by to cool off at the waterfall.
Happy Summer, and enjoy the links!

That's all for this week! Don't forget to stop by next Friday when I'll be sharing a freshly selected batch of links for your surfing pleasure.
Stay cool. Stay healthy. And don't forget to curl up (or stretch out) with a good book!
I am sorry to hear about the AC, Cathy! Not good timing for it (but is it ever?). I really hope Denis continues to make progress, so he can be home soon. We're all cheering for you two, and hoping this all happens smoothly and quickly. I'm going to head for that Roman temple, but I'll be back!
ReplyDeleteOkay, Arnie! ;-)
DeleteI just read "Remarkably Bright Creatures" in which an octopus features prominently. Indeed they are very bright creatures.
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain regarding the AC. We've had that happen in the middle of summer before. Not fun when the temperature is 102. But that is good news about Denis. I hope he's home soon.
Me, too! I sent our caregiver over with a bag of goodies, and he almost snatched the tote out of her hands to get at the bag of York Peppermint Patties!
DeleteGood news about Denis, and hope the a/c is running cool air very soon for both of you. So amazing all you have done to get the house ready for his return. I have to say I've been so bummed out about SCOTUS' ruling and the horrors going on in the states, even against doctors, that I actually have not been reading fiction. Just reading news which I should stop doing, and go back to fiction and chocolate to soothe my shattered nerves. I didn't email you because I didn't want to give you more to read, but I have been hoping that things are going well for Denis and for you to solve those to-do problem tasks. Glad it's coming along. Glad the birds are out, too. Glad to see a SCOTUS section of commentary. I have Remarkably Bright Creatures on library hold, as I am fascinated by octopuses. Thanks for these links. Will get back to them later in my a/c room.
ReplyDeleteThankfully, the AC was fixed the next day. The temperatures have all been over 110°, so it was lovely to get some cold air in the house again.
DeleteDon't feel remiss about not emailing. It's just that I have mail that I've been ignoring much too long and I wanted to acknowledge the people who've taken the time to write. They were probably wondering if I'd ever received their letters!
Yay that Denis is making such good progess! And I hope you're able to get your AC fixed soon. Have a great weekend. :D
ReplyDeleteIt's fixed. Hallelujah!
DeleteSuch good news about Denis! I'll keep praying for both of you, with fingers crossed for good measure. Good luck with the AC; I hope that's fixed soon, if not already.
ReplyDeleteI sent Denis a fresh bag of York Peppermint Patties Friday afternoon, so he's good to go. The AC is fixed, and I'm in the middle of a book that makes me grumpy when I have to put it down and pay attention to the real world. I can't complain a bit!
DeleteWell, I waited long enough to check in that you were able to get your A/C fixed. Wonderful! I do indeed understand when that is an issue, but I'm not sure everyone quite gets it. Ha! Yay about Denis and now, get back to your book!!
ReplyDeleteWell, when I mention that today's high temperature was a mere 117°, I think more than one person's eyes might bug out! LOL
DeleteI did get back to my book. I spent all afternoon reading, and when I finished, I was holding my latest Best Read of 2022. :-)
Inquiring minds want to know which book that was.
DeleteInquiring minds will see the review sometime within the first two weeks of August. :-)
DeleteInquiring minds will wait as patiently as possible.
DeleteThank you!
DeleteThat Oriole is beautiful and has the right idea - hanging out by the waterfall. I love looking at those book nooks. They remind me of a dollhouse store I loved to go to when I was young. I would just get lost in that world.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear your A/C is fixed. Enjoy your book this weekend!
I did enjoy that book, and I've started another one which might be every bit as good. :-)
DeleteHope the A/C is humming along. Good news on the Denis front too, hope all continues to go well.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Julia!
DeleteI refuse to eat those intelligent octopi, even tho they are delish.
ReplyDeleteIf you refuse to eat them, how do you know they're delish? ;-)
