Paige Shelton is one very talented writer and one of the nicest people I've ever met. She has some cozy series under her belt-- how about her Scottish Bookshop series for instance?-- but it's her not-quite-so-cozy Alaska Wild series that I've really been enjoying. Thriller writer Beth Rivers narrowly escaped her violent kidnapper and has escaped to a small town in Alaska to hide from him and to recuperate. Naturally, she's made friends and gotten into some adventures while becoming acclimated to her new home.
I've really been looking forward to seeing what happens to Beth next, so I did a little happy dance when I learned the release date of her next Alaska Wild mystery. Let me tell you more about it!
Synopsis:
"It’s springtime in Benedict, Alaska, and with the warmer weather
comes an unseasonably somber local tradition...the annual Death Walk. At
the end of each brutal winter, citizens gather downtown and then break
into groups to search the community for those who might have somehow
gotten stuck at home. Beth Rivers sets off with her friend Orin and dog
Gus, toward the cabin of an elderly resident, intending to check on him.
When they reach the cabin, the old man is alive, but not in the best shape. Beth stays with him while Orin hurries to town for help, but it’s not Orin who returns. Gril comes back with shocking news, and it soon becomes clear that Orin has also vanished. When they discover that their friend has been doing some top-secret research, they start to worry he’s been exposed, or worse.
Meanwhile, Beth continues on her own search, for her father, who allegedly is alive in Mexico, but won't return her calls. Still, she's making progress in healing from her own trauma, though can't quite shake the feeling she's being followed..."

It sounds like there are going to be some interesting developments, not only for Beth but for other characters in the series. I bet most of us have never lived in an area where springtime "Death Walks" are necessary. I love learning details like this about places, don't you?
Yes indeed, I'm looking forward to getting my hands on Winter's End, and I hope you are, too!
You're reading The Self-Made Widow. I can't wait for the library copy. Am eagerly awaiting it.
ReplyDeleteSo far, it's wonderful.
DeleteOh, drat, now I have to be patient to await this book! I keep telling people about it, Andie Stern, five kids, a dorky husband, and a brilliant forensic mind solving murder cases. I think Fabian Nicieza is going to be at Murder by the Book soon. (I saw a You Tube video of Oline Cogdill giving her summer book recommendations at the Murder by the Book site.) Between this blog and these videos of authors or book reviewers, I have lists for three lifetimes. But I just love to hear about books.
DeleteNicieza did an event with The Poisoned Pen last year.
DeleteI saw him which led me to read Suburban Dicks. But there is an event again with PP and one with Mystery by the Book.
DeleteI'll be watching The PP event. Hopefully in "real time" so I can ask a question. You should really like the new one, Kathy.
DeleteThis is a series that I think you put on my 'radar' quite some time ago. And I still haven't started it. Is this new one the 4th? In any case, I just checked and I think my local library has all the previous books. I've got time to read them and get caught up - yay! Oh, and this also fulfills my 'read cold books in summer' aim. LOL
ReplyDeleteYes, it is the fourth book-- and I always like to read cold books in the summer, too! LOL
DeleteThis series is also on my TBR. Love the setting and premise.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear she's on your radar, Gretchen!
DeleteI love this series! I still need to read Dark Night, but I'm super excited to know she had another one coming out this December. Books to look forward to...always a good thing. :D
ReplyDeleteYes, indeed!
DeleteI really need to start reading Paige Shelton's work, Cathy. I've heard it's really good, but it's just one of those series I haven't started yet. No real reason (OK, there's the TBR thing); I just haven't yet. This one does sound good!
ReplyDeleteYou really should read at least one book in this series, Margot.
DeleteOoh, I didn't have any info on the next one yet; thanks for putting it on my radar!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome!
DeleteAnd now this series, too? I may need it in August.
ReplyDeleteThere's something about reading books set during blizzards and such that helps cool me down in the summer.
DeleteYes, especially sitting in a/c which I do.
DeleteSitting in the pool while reading about blizzards is even better.
DeleteLooking forward to this as well!
ReplyDeleteA fellow fan? Good! :-)
