May 2022 Additions to My Digital Security Blanket

Bargains seemed to be few and far between during the month of May, and that really helped me keep a tight rein on how many books I added to my digital security blanket.

I've grouped my purchases according to their genres/subgenres, and if you click on the link in the book title, you'll be taken to Amazon US where you can learn more about it. I'm not affiliated with Amazon, I just own a Kindle and (also) like to use the Godzilla of retailers as a showroom.

Let's take a look at the books I did manage to buy...

===Dystopian Fiction===

Last One at the Party by Bethany Clift. Set in England.

█ This one was recommended to me by a dear friend in England, and I'm in the mood for an end-of-the-world novel. I used to read them all the time, but now I have to be in the right frame of mind to indulge.

===Short Story===

█ This is part of a series of short stories in which authors give the background and inspiration for their iconic characters. It was good to refresh my memory about Harry, and I also learned a few new things as well. I gave this four stars on Goodreads.

===Cozy Mystery===

Death Plans a Perfect Trip by Mary Jane Maffini. Set in Europe.

█ I enjoy Mary Jane Maffini's writing, and I was very glad to see another entry in her Charlotte Adams Professional Organizer cozy series.

===Non-Fiction===

█ Millard is one of my all-time favorite non-fiction writers. In fact, she wrote one of my all-time favorite books (River of Doubt). I love her writing so much that I will buy her books without knowing what the subject matter is. I know I will learn and enjoy.

===Police Procedural===

Murder on Bamboo Lane by Naomi Hirahara. Set in California.

█ I have enjoyed every book of Hirahara's that I've read, and I thought it was time to read a book in this series, too.

===Amateur Sleuth===

Death on the Trans-Siberian Express by C.J. Farrington. Set in Russia.

█ The character, the setting, and the story all combined to make this something that I want to read.

Have you already read any of these? What did you think of them? Did any of my purchases wind up on your own wish lists? Which ones? Inquiring minds would love to know!

  1. Candice Miller is a travel writing author I haven't heard of. That looks so interesting. I have a book by a Victorian lady traveller, Amelia Edwards, on my 20 Books of Summer list (A Thousand Miles up the Nile). She went up the Nile in the 1870s so it would be interesting to compare the two.

    1. I wouldn't describe Millard as a travel writer, she's really an historian. I remember reading about Mary Kingsley, another intrepid Victorian lady who wrote about her exploration of West Africa. Fascinating, and the lady had a sense of humor, too.

  2. The Connelly got my attention right away, Cathy; what an interesting perspective on his writing and on Harry Bosch. And the Millard sounds absolutely fascinating; I can see how it would get onto your list!

    1. Now all I have to do is finish with these ARCs so I can read the Millard!

  3. I have both the Millard titles you mentioned on my non-fiction TBR list, and clearly need to move them up :)

    1. I was shocked when I saw that it was available. There hadn't been a new book in that series in several years.

  5. Even though I think I have a pretty good handle on the Harry Bosch character, I couldn't resist that short character study you mentioned...just downloaded it. Thanks.

    1. You're welcome. I'm like you, Sam. I've got a good handle on Harry, but I just couldn't resist. Some of the others in the series are tempting, too.

  6. Some of these look good. I have to see if I can find the Connelly story. These lists really challenge my TBR list.

  7. Well, I've got The Lincoln Lawyer series to watch on Netflix. Comments from friends indicate it's very good, and the cast is excellent.
