Oh, Man-- Don't Come Over Here!

"Man Reading" by Georges Lemmen

Now... some people may take a look at this painting and see a man focused on what he's reading. Do I see that? Well, yes, I do, but I also see something else.

See the way he has his hand shielding his face? Maybe he's keeping bright light out of his eyes, but I think he's seen someone across the room who may want to come over and start jabbering away about the latest box scores. How many of us have tried to disappear into the woodwork so we can read uninterrupted? I feel for the guy!

  1. Yeah... perhaps if I cover my face the b****r might not notice me. LOL! I feel for him too. With me it's my husband. I hear him coming downstairs and I know he's aiming for me to tell me something but I'm two pages from the end of my book and I have the choice of rushing the last two pages or interrupting the flow of it while I listen to him muttering endlessly about something and then trying to pick up the momentum again. I'm sure you know how this feels. LOL

    1. For some reason, Denis is much more likely to wait to "share" toward the end of a TV program I've been avidly watching when all is to be revealed. LOL

  2. I know that feeling, Cathy! He just wishes he had an Invisibility Cloak so he could finish that last chapter in peace. And oh, no! It's someone he knows, so he can't really ignore whoever it is. Poor guy!

    1. What I wouldn't do for an invisibility cloak. Harry, do you have a spare?

  3. On the other hand, if he is interrupted, he will later have the pleasure of returning to that world and losing himself all over again.

    1. I'm going to hum a verse of "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" now... ;-)

  4. Yep, I think he's hoping no one notices him so he can read in peace.

    1. After all, if you're reading in public, it must mean that you want to be interrupted, right?
