I've enjoyed Ragnar Jónasson's books since I first came across his Ari Thór Arason mysteries set in northern Iceland, but I really became a fan with his trilogy featuring Iceland's Detective Inspector Hulda Hermannsdóttir. How he set that trilogy up blew my mind; so much so that this person who doesn't re-read books intends to re-read his Hulda trilogy.
Since I also hot-footed it to The Poisoned Pen when Jónasson appeared there, you know my Happy Dance when I learned he had another book coming out was particularly lively. Let me share what I learned with you.

Synopsis:
"With two million copies of his books sold worldwide, 'world-class crime writer'(The Sunday Times, UK) Ragnar Jónasson brings us a chilling new standalone thriller with Outside.
It does sound good, Cathy! I do like past/present connections in my stories, and I can see that this one sounds suspenseful.
ReplyDeleteIt certainly does!
DeleteI have thoroughly enjoyed Jónasson's books that I have read, so I believe I will be checking this new one out.
ReplyDeleteI've read all his books that have been translated into English, and there's only been one that I haven't thoroughly enjoyed. It was good, but not quite up to the standards of the others.
DeleteHe's another author that's high on my TBR list. My only trouble is trying to figure out which of his books to read first.
ReplyDeleteI'd suggest either his Ari Thór Arason series, a police procedural set on the northern coast of Iceland, or his Hulda trilogy. Snowblind is the first Ari Thór book.
DeleteI read one book and slept with the lights on and didn't take out the garbage that night. Not for my taste and certainly not one for me without a cat or dog on my lap.
ReplyDeleteYes, you've mentioned your reaction to this particular author several times. He's one writer I'm going to keep reading, and you're going to keep not reading.
DeleteYes. People's own tastes in books are so individual and interesting. Friends rave about books and lend them to me. Some I like, some I don't.
ReplyDeleteAnd the point is we can choose what to read or not read. No book banning around the crime fiction reading community, except maybe in public schools or libraries. As long as we can buy books, we can read what we choose to read.
And, actually, I do agree with most of your selections.
Perhaps it's just me, but I would feel that it's rather strange if you and I agreed 100% on everything.
DeleteYes, even people who live together have different reading tastes.
ReplyDeleteAnd I remember my father, who got me started with Sherlock Holmes, read some mysteries I would not read, which I knew were a bit too gory and sexist. The one thing we agreed on was that I would not read trashy novels which some of my friends did as teenagers.
