Poor Denis! For about a week now, he's been suffering great pain from what we're assuming is a trapped nerve that's affecting his lower back, hip, and leg. We've been working ourselves silly trying to pinpoint what caused it. An old, butt-sprung recliner? A memory foam mattress past its Use-By date? Whatever it is, it's no fun, and I'm glad to hear that he's decided to go to the doctor. What makes this so aggravating is that he'd just recovered from another bout with agonizing pain after his doctor insisted that he stop taking omeprazole.
The sage who stated that growing old is not for wimps hit the nail square on the head, and I'm so looking forward to having my husband back to his usual chipper, smart-alecky self!
On a brighter note, a friend on Facebook shared a photo of a bookmark he'd come across. I fell so deeply in love with it that I had to track down the maker/seller and get one all for my very own.
I think you'll agree that this particular bookmark is perfect for those who love to read crime fiction! I know you've also noted that I bought more than one. Perhaps the winner of a future giveaway will also win one of these bookmarks. What do you think? Oh, and in case you're having trouble reading what the bookmark says: "Blood stains are red, Luminol glows blue, I read enough crime books so they'll never find you."
It's about time for me to curl up with the next Montalbano mystery that I'm reading, but I did want to give a shout-out to a certain Santa. Your card appeared in my mailbox last Thursday, evidently having hitched a ride on a particularly slow turtle train. Thank you so much!

Stay safe. Stay healthy. And don't forget to curl up with a good book!
Love the animal stories, and also miss Betty White. Now I can add Ronnie Spector and Sidney Poitier to the recent painful losses.
ReplyDeleteHave many more links to read here.
And hope that bloke with the British wit recovers quickly so he feels better and the humor returns. Nothing like a home with crackling British wit..
He's on a nice mix of muscle relaxers and pain killers. He's moving easier and his wit and humor are returning. The mobility issues that he's been experiencing are making him understand what I've been going through better, bless him. I would've been happier if he hadn't had to gain empathy this way.
DeleteYes. That is too bad. Aging has its drawbacks, which I'm finding out. the mobility problems are awful. I'm walking fine in my building with smooth floors. But outside the sidewalks are cracked, have inclines and declines. And some of the curbs are very high and now hard to manage. I'm dragging out my cane from years ago. I look at the staircase and sigh.
DeleteYes. I am not a fan of stairs.
DeleteOh, I am so sorry to hear about Denis, Cathy! I hope he'll get some relief soon. You're right that getting older is not for wimps! Oh, and I LOVE that bookmark! You're very lucky to have tracked it down. Now, I'm going to join that team looking for the Temple of Hercules! Hope your weekend goes well.
ReplyDeleteAnd yours, Margot. Don't get lost looking for Herc.
DeleteLots of fascinating links here. I was particularly interested in the one about the origin of Native Americans and about sitting still in Nature.
ReplyDeleteI feel for Denis. Having suffered back and hip pain myself in years past, I know how debilitating it can be. I hope he finds relief soon.
He is experiencing some relief now, Dorothy. He's just one of the many who expect to take a pill and feel 100% better five minutes later. I have to remind him that it doesn't work that way.
DeleteI've long been a fan of sitting still in Nature, and as a birder, I would imagine that you've been, too.
Denis, no new shoes recently? Shoes cause many back issues if you aren't used to them. I hope he gets some relief soon.
ReplyDeleteNope. No new shoes. The doc gave him some good meds, and he's starting to perk up a bit. It's been a blessing in disguise that, due to my own problems, we already had a walker and canes in the house.
DeleteSo sorry to hear that Denis is having a rough time of it right now. Both my wife and I take that same medicine, and coincidentally, I'm about to leave home to pick up her refill. Now I'm curious about why the doc took Denis off it.
ReplyDeleteThat bookmark is just about perfect for all of the self-made crime investigators out there...like us.
Happy to read the good news about Ann Cleeves. Thats a well deserved honor, for sure.
Yes, I was so happy to see Ann's name on the Honors List!
DeleteI think the doc took Denis off that particular drug because of its link to Alzheimer's/dementia. I'd had to take it for a few years, but for some strange reason, once I had major surgery, I no longer needed it. The surgeon must've whacked out the part that needed the drug.
That bookmark is hilarious! :D
ReplyDeleteI love that bookmark!
DeleteBoth my husband and I have occasional bouts of back trouble. It is the worst! The older we get the more it seems like our back pain will never go away. Hope Denis is feeling better soon.
ReplyDeleteI off to look at some lists. Have a good weekend!
You, too, Gretchen.
DeleteLOVE the bookmark! Maybe for non-winners, you can share the source ...
ReplyDeleteGlad to see your comments about Denis feeling better, also. Mat that continue for both of you.
