Now that Denis is retired, it looks as though I may be getting out and about more. Am I going to complain? What do you think? We had one outing Wednesday and have scheduled another for next Wednesday. We may even schedule another for the Wednesday after that.
Where did we go Wednesday? The Wildlife World Zoo, and it was a sunny, balmy, perfect day for it. Denis and I were enjoying ourselves so much that we stayed longer than we'd intended. Fortunately, we didn't pay for our transgression by getting caught in rush hour traffic. We explored sections of the zoo we hadn't seen before (I told you the place is huge), and naturally I'll be sharing a few photos in the near future.
Before I head off to the corral, I'll leave you with one photo, taken of a very photogenic duck that I have yet to identify. Can any of you help me out?

The beautiful duck -almost sure it is an American Wigeon(male). Wondering if you had any other view of it? Really nice photo.
ReplyDeleteSee what you think - https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/American_Wigeon/id
No, that's the only decent view I could get of it. I'm not about to be one of those zoo visitors who goes past the barriers! LOL
DeleteI was leaning toward American Wigeon. Thanks for your input, Ev. Much appreciated!
Ev--- just got word that we were in the right church but the wrong pew. It's a Chiloé Wigeon from the southern part of South America. Take a look at this page on Wikipedia.
DeleteOK sounds good Cathy. Always good when an ID can be confirmed - it is a beautiful duck no doubt about that.
DeleteGlad you guys had such a nice outing.
Looking forward to your reporting of more outings in the future.
Ev
PS - BTW, how does one go about having an avatar for your blog. I'd prefer something rather than that grey blank profile. Thanks.
I seem to remember that you asked me this once before. When I click on your name, Blogger tells me that you have chosen not to share your profile, so that probably has something to do with it. Your settings may need to be tweaked a little.
DeleteI love that 'photo, Cathy! And I'm so glad you and Denis had the chance to go out and have a nice day like that. Can't wait to see your other pictures. It's so nice to get the chance to do things like that, isn't it? The links are, as always, great, too. I think I'm heading to that Aztec site first, but there are a few others I want to check out.
ReplyDeleteI thought I would be able to entice you with that Aztec link!
DeleteI am so glad you and Denis were able to visit the zoo! I love to visit zoos, but don't live close to one now.
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to reading about Moonlighting. I watched the show with my family when it originally aired. My husband and I were recently talking about the show and wondering if we could find it somewhere.
Have a great weekend!
I've been wondering for a long time why Moonlighting isn't available on DVD or streaming.
DeleteI am so glad you guys were able to go out and enjoy yourselves? Doesn't it feel good? I can't wait to see where you go next. Our zoo is too overbooked to make a visit a reality but the Santa Barbara Zoo is smaller and probably more doable for us. We hit SB all the time so maybe we will plan a trip the next time we go. I just want to be outside.
ReplyDeleteA couple of our other favorite places to visit have online booking so they can monitor how many people are onsite. Denis and I are making use of that.
DeleteI felt like a solar panel, soaking up all available rays, and with the added bonus that there's no chance of a sunburned nose while wearing a mask. (Yes, I do have sunscreen.)
I missed the fact that Denis has retired. Congratulate him for me; I hope he enjoys retirement as much as I have. It did take me over a year to get the idea out of my head that I really should be working somewhere, but when I managed that trick it really started to click. Now, I can't even imagine going back to work.
ReplyDeleteI've noticed, too, how many really good books have been turned into great films here and all over the world lately. Movies and TV, in recent months, have turned me on to some very good books...reading "Dig" and "Good Morning, Midnight" right now, in fact, because I enjoyed the movies so much...and, yes, the books are even better than the movies this time, too.
There have been times I've found that the movie is better than the book, but I admit that they are few and far between.
DeleteDenis joined the Royal Navy when he was fifteen. Since he's now seventy-one, it was way past time for him to throw in the towel. And I think the whole mess with COVID-19 and the various government agencies' lack of response to it made Denis more than ready to retire. If the past week has been any indication, he doesn't miss it one bit.
I hope people don't leave trash on that road, though it's kinda cool at the same time.
ReplyDeleteYes, it is.
DeleteI just knew your first trip would be to that zoo. It just looks and sounds fantastic. And so enjoy the photos from each trip there.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the links. Have read some, others over the weekend. Always love the animal stories and the book reviews. So much to read, it's daunting. Hard to choose.
I wonder if you'll guess the destination of our second visit?
DeleteIt is nice to have your favorite companion home and ready to plan Wednesday adventures! Time to explore and enjoy!
ReplyDeleteYes indeed!
DeletePoisoned Pen?
ReplyDeleteNope!
DeleteThat area where you both go and rent a cabin and see wildlife? I don't remember the name of the area.
ReplyDeleteOr the Botanical Gardens with the cafe and birds and squirrels running around? And the cacti?
The second-- the Desert Botanical Garden.
DeleteThe first one was Ramsey Canyon. That place has been sold (it was a main house and two cabins) and the cabins haven't been rented out for quite some time.
I love those photos from the Botanical Gardens with the road runners running around, the other critters and those cacti.
ReplyDeleteI hope they're all out and about Wednesday, which is when we're scheduled to be there!
DeleteHope so!
