On My Radar: Paige Shelton's Thin Ice

I don't know why I am the way I am, but I'm happy to let authors do whatever they want. If they want to end a series I love, I won't cry buckets and I won't send hate mail. I won't be happy, but I figure if the author wants to move on, they should. If I love their writing, chances are excellent that I'm going to love whatever they write. (And if they're happy, they are going to keep writing, which is the main thing, isn't it?)

Paige Shelton writes darned good cozy mysteries, and I've enjoyed reading them, but when she told us at an event at The Poisoned Pen that she was writing something different, I was thrilled. Paige's new book that's due out in December is more domestic suspense or thriller, and I'm looking forward to reading it. Let's take a look at Thin Ice, shall we?

Available December 3, 2019!
Synopsis:

"First in a new series set in Alaska from beloved cozy author Paige Shelton, Thin Ice will chill your bones.

Beth Rivers is on the run – she’s doing the only thing she could think of to keep herself safe. Known to the world as thriller author Elizabeth Fairchild, she had become the subject of a fanatic’s obsession. After being held in a van for three days by her kidnapper, Levi Brooks, Beth managed to escape, and until he is captured, she's got to get away. Cold and remote, Alaska seems tailormade for her to hide out.

Beth’s new home in Alaska is sparsely populated with people who all seem to be running or hiding from something, and though she accidentally booked a room at a halfway house, she feels safer than she’s felt since Levi took her. That is until she’s told about a local death that’s a suspected murder. Could the death of Linda Rafferty have anything to do with her horror at the hands of Levi Brooks?

As Beth navigates her way through the wilds of her new home, her memories of her time in the van are coming back, replaying the terror and the fear―and threatening to keep her from healing, from reclaiming her old life again. Can she get back to normal, will she ever truly feel safe, and can she help solve the local mystery, if only so she doesn’t have to think about her own?"

Sounds good, doesn't it? I'm really looking forward to reading Thin Ice!

  1. Oh, that does sound good, Cathy! And I like your attitude about authors doing what works for them. Sometimes, you need a change. Or you want to 'stretch' yourself. Or you know that you don't have another interesting novel about the same characters in you, if I can put it that way.

  2. I saw something about this one recently and thought it would suit me better than her cozy books. Have made note of it. Yes, I've decided to read all of Betty Webb's Lena Jones books over the next few months. I've read several before, but not all of them. I know that Betty has finished telling Lena's story and that's perfectly OK.

    1. I know you're enjoying your journey with Lena. I well remember that very first book in the series. Lena grabbed me by the throat and never let go. I'm looking forward to seeing what you think of the last book in the series.

  3. It does sound good and I can see where authors would like to explore different routes to telling stories.

    1. Sometimes you only have so many stories to tell about the same person, you know? ;-)
