The Lights Aren't On But I'm Home Weekly Link Round-Up

Just as I started to write an email to a friend Wednesday afternoon, the power went off. That's an extremely rare occurrence in my part of Phoenix, and it's the first time it had done more than flicker since Denis immigrated here in 2001. It was out a good forty minutes, and it was eery how silent the house was.

Fortunately, I'd printed a few things before the blackout, so I spent the time looking at various maps of Santa Fe, New Mexico. This is the next trip Denis and I will be taking. Neither one of us has ever been there, and we're really looking forward to it.

Looking at maps and notes, I discovered that there's a yarn shop in the small shopping mall next to our hotel. (How did I manage that?) I'm adding things like the Museum of International Folk Art, the Folk Art Market, the Pecos National Historical Park, La Cieneguilla Petroglyph Site, and the Randall Davey Audubon Center and Sanctuary to my list. And... Las Vegas (where Longmire is filmed) is only about forty miles away. Something tells me that will make the list, too.

But enough of lists! I hear those links out in the corral. They're telling me they've been waiting long enough. Head 'em up! Mooove 'em out!

That's all for this week! Don't forget to stop by next Friday when I'll be sharing a freshly selected batch of links for your surfing pleasure.

Have a great weekend, and read something fabulous!

  1. It sounds as though you and Denis are planning a great trip, Cathy, and I hope you'll enjoy it. And I'm happy for you that you found a great yarn shop too! Now, if you'll excuse me, there's an ancient tablet I want to check out...

  3. Have a great time in Santa Fe. It is a beautiful and interesting city. I have not been there, but have heard and read about it.

Also, on this list of 12 of the best private detectives. It's a bit outmoded in that only one woman writer and only one woman detective are included. The list is from four years ago.

Perhaps if it was written now, more women writers and private eyes would be included on the list.

    1. That would probably depend a great deal upon who was composing the list.

  4. I love Santa Fe. A day trip to Red River would be worth your while. It's cool and green and shady. A 45 minute trip to quirky Madrid takes you to an arts colony of sorts...and the place where they filmed Wild Hogs (a silly comedy with Tim Allen) but the culture is quirky New Mexico. We made Santa Fe our homebase when we visited Chaco Canyon, which is one of my all time favorite places. Of course maybe you'll see Anne Hillerman tooling about or at least catch a glimpse of Joe Leaphorn or Jim Chee. Have a wonderful time. PS...we were lucky and did not lose power. As the temps creep up I feel so grateful for that.
