The Final Countdown Weekly Link Round-Up

I think my knees have slowly decided that I'm no longer climbing up and down from trains while lugging suitcases. Of course, stretching out in the Arizona sun to recharge my inner solar cell certainly didn't hurt!

Fellow tourists in London
What boggles my mind is the fact that I have a ton of work to do out in the garden-- and I need to start thinking of bringing out all the Christmas decorations. Yikes! If only I could twitch my nose like Samantha on Bewitched!

And I have gifts to finish knitting, knitting to block, gifts to get ready to be mailed out. Once my pool season is over, it seems that the final countdown to the holidays goes by in the blink of an eye!

But while I'm making all sorts of plans, I'll smile and think of all the wonders of London-- and the peace and breathtaking beauty of a beach in the Scottish Highlands. *cough* Of course that's after I round up some links for y'all.

Head 'em up! Move 'em out!

►Books, Movies & Other Interesting Tidbits◄
  • Best-selling Swedish crime fiction author Henning Mankell has died at the age of 67.
  • This librarian banned a book to make people notice the problem.
  • These children were asked why they love reading, and here are their answers.
  • After having watched the first two episodes of the new season of Downton Abbey while in the UK, it made me smile (ironically) when I read that white-gloved butlers are the new must-have for China's super rich. Carson might have a thing or two to say about that.
  • Here's a fully transparent solar cell that could make every window and screen a power source.
  • This airline just kicked this woman off the plane for the best reason. ALL airlines should be like this.
  • A paramedic who makes $15 per hour destroys every complaint about fast food workers earning the same amount.
  • The card catalog is officially dead, and something inside me will always miss it.

►Channeling My Inner Indiana Jones◄

►Channeling My Inner Elly Mae Clampett◄
  • This fearless lioness made the ultimate sacrifice for her cubs (with a happy ending).
  • Wildlife activists are praising Tanzania for the arrest of a Chinese woman.

►The Happy Wanderer◄
  • The creepiest ghost towns in America. Creepy is in the bones of the beholder. It probably won't surprise any of you that I've been to the ones on the list that are in Arizona and wasn't creeped out a bit!

►I ♥ Lists◄

That's all for this week! Don't forget to stop by next Friday when I'll be sharing a freshly selected batch of links for your surfing pleasure.

Have a great weekend, and read something fabulous!

  1. It's so hard to believe that it's already October, isn't it it, Cathy, and time for planning those end-of-the-year things like gifts, decorations and the like. And you always have such beautiful decorations at Casa Kittling. Still, you need to recover from your trip before you do that. As for me, I need to read more about that Chinese tomb! Thanks for the links.

    1. I'm happy to say that my knees are coming out of their travel shock. I've got a lot of decorations showing the wear and tear of years, and I need to go through them.

  2. Omigosh! Christmas decorations already! I'm exhausted reading this post: still recovering from that tiring trip, gardening to do, then Christmas decorations. Can't you just put up your aching knees and read for awhile -- just let stuff pile up.

I appreciate the links and will go through them slowly but surely.

I loved last week's outstanding women in Scotland's history.

    1. Well, to be honest, I haven't been able to move very well, so all this is still in the thinking phase, if that makes you feel any better. ;-)

I think that was my favorite link last week, Kathy.

  3. Lots of good links: civilization-discovering pigs, book-themed jewelry and clothing and the great attitude of a paramedic about the $15 minimum wage for all workers. Actually, for my city, that's not even enough to live on, especially for anyone with a family. But the post is very good.

And I find I've done about 8 of the 11 embarrassing things done by book lovers.
