Saturday Snapshot: Be Vewy Quiet, I'm Hunting Wabbits!

Alyce hosts this wonderful photography meme on her blog, At Home With Books. Please check her blog for the simple guidelines-- and to get the links for everyone else who's participating!

Last week Denis and I went to the Deer Valley Rock Art Center to look for petroglyphs we might have overlooked on previous visits, and also to see what sort of wildlife might be out and about in the cooler weather.

While I was keeping an eye on lizards and ground squirrels, Denis found a young desert cottontail that seemed to place too much faith in the power of remaining still....

"If I stay really still, he won't see me... right?"

  3. Adorable! Just like a kid who thinks he's hiding when in plain sight.

    1. I helped my grandfather raise rabbits, and when I'd hold the tiny babies, they'd burrow their faces into the crook of my elbow, convinced that, if they couldn't see me, then they were safe. If only that were true!

  7. What a close-up! I guess in this case his instinct to stay perfectly still paid off for both of you :)

    1. Most of it was in fairly deep shadow. I don't think it had any idea that its ear was shining like a beacon!

    1. I just hope this one doesn't make the same mistake when the watcher is a coyote!

  11. You call the rabbit's attention. It looks alert and ready to run.

    1. Denis wanted me to come over to see the rabbit. I knew that if I did, it would run. Denis insisted. I came over. The rabbit disappeared before I could catch a glimpse. Staying still for one human was doable. Staying still for two? No way!

  14. Oh, how adorable. This is the only type of "shooting" rabbits which I approve of.
