I thought I'd share something from the Desert Botanical Garden here in Phoenix. Denis and I saw one of the statues through the trees, and it was so eye-catching that we both hot-footed it over to take a look.
What we discovered was some amazing artwork by Philip Haas called "The Four Seasons."
Click on any of the photos to view them full size. I think you'll want to in order to appreciate all the detail in this art!
After you've taken a look at them all, please leave a comment and let me know which one is your favorite.

Some of the Renaissance artists used to do this kind of thing, and I believe it's supposed to have links with the Green Man myths. I must admit that although it's clever I find it a bit spooky.I've had a break for a couple of weeks, but my Snapshot is at http://goo.gl/CQuKI
ReplyDeleteOh, you're right. This is spectacular. I look at plants and see plants. Others look at plants and see the possibility of art. Here's Mine
ReplyDeleteWow! These are fantastic.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Christine - they're a little creepy somehow. But the winter man is striking in a spiky kind of way.
ReplyDeleteThey are so odd looking but incredibly creative. My favourite would have to be winter.
ReplyDeleteCathy - What a creative way to depict the seasons! Wow! It's one of those pieces of work that you just can't help looking at again and again.
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome creation!
ReplyDeleteHard to pick one. They look kind of odd and also interesting.
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderfully artistic creations! Normally fall is my favorite season, but amongst these, I'd pick spring. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHere's MY SATURDAY SNAPSHOT POST
Oh my gracious! These are so cool!!
ReplyDeleteI have never seen something like this before, but these photos are fun and a cool way to display the seasons.
ReplyDeleteFantastically creative creatures! I love Winter; there's more character in the face.
ReplyDeleteHow very cool! I've seen paintings like this before...but never sculpture.
ReplyDeleteHere's my Snapshot.
WOW! These are amazing! I really like the base of the autumn man, but the face of the spring guy! Winter is sort of mean looking. Guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder!!
ReplyDeleteHere is my Snapshot Saturday post for today
Loe these! They remond me of the Ents in The Lord of the Rings ... I love 'Autumn'
ReplyDeleteI like autumn the best because he seems like he almost has a bit of humor - like a storybook character.
ReplyDeleteWhat amazing creations. They also reminded me of the paintings of faces made up of various fruits. Google Giuseppe Arcimboldo and you will find lots of them.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful display! I googled Arcimboldo's original paintings to see the artist's inspiration. Fascinating. The craggy, textural winter is definitely my favourite, but I really like them all.
ReplyDeleteThese are amazing!! There is so much to look at! It really must have been interesting to see them up close. I like different parts of each one so I don't think I could choose a favorite. Very clever!
ReplyDeleteFabulous, I love the winter full face.
