James Tissot is one of my favorite artists. I bought a book of his art several years ago, well before I met Denis. A year or so after Denis immigrated, I found myself browsing through the book of Tissot's art again, and I was brought short by this one painting called
M. le Capitaine, or
Gentleman in a Railway Carriage, which was done in 1872. Can you see why I was amazed?

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Tissot's model were an ancestor of Denis's, would you?
They do look alike!
ReplyDeleteOh, that's almost eerie, Cathy!
ReplyDeleteKathy-- Yes, a definite resemblance!
ReplyDeleteMargot-- I was gobsmacked when I saw the painting!
