Three Cheers for Birdwatchers on this Weekly Link Round-Up

Another quiet week here at Casa Kittling, but there's nothing wrong with quiet. An eye exam, a wonderful lunch out with my favorite guy, sitting outside tonight with a full moon so bright that it made all the white flowers in the back garden glow. Reading in the pool and crying my eyes out at the sad part. Quiet is good.

Before I get to the links, I'd like to thank one of my readers-- Leslie of Under My Apple Tree-- for spending heaven only knows how much time trying (and succeeding!!!) to identify the bird in this week's Wordless Wednesday post.  I now know that the pretty little guy is a male juvenile Western Tanager. Since it always showed up at the cottage outside Bisbee in the company of Hooded Orioles, I was sure it was some kind of oriole, too. Goes to show where that thinking got me, eh? Anyway, a huge thank you to Leslie!

Now let's get to those links!

  1. Leslie is my go to source for bird IDs too!

  2. I took a look at the bad blogging behavior post and was baffled. None of the blogs I follow would fit into any of the bad behavior categories. My favorite bloggers have become my virtual friends for good reason - we all love books and enjoy hearing about each other's lives.

  3. Thanks for the mention! If there's a bird mystery I have the need to solve it. I thought it was an Oriole at first but the black feathers were missing. I just bought the Crossley guide (excellent book, uses real photos of birds in their habitat) and wanted to put it to use. It didn't take that long... really.

  4. Kathy-- I think she's going to turn into mine!

Barbara-- I wasn't baffled. I've seen the behavior they described.

Leslie-- I'm going to have to see about getting a Crossley guide!
