Another quiet week here at Casa Kittling. The only news to impart is structural. It seems that the golfball-sized hail that visited a couple of weeks ago is going to be the "driving force" behind new shingles on the roof, a new carport and possibly even a new coat of paint. I have a friend whose car was totaled by the hail, and I'm certainly glad we didn't live where the tennis ball-sized hail fell!
Let's take a look at the links I found this week!
Bookish News & Other Fun Stuff
- Excitement is building over the publication of Mark Twain's autobiography. The author insisted that it not be published until 100 years after his death. At least 50% of the material will be brand new.
- What it's like to be a judge for the National Book Awards.
- Last week I included a link to folks in the publishing world who said that the market for picture books was basically dead in the water. This week another group says that picture books are alive and well-- in libraries.
- I love these posters and had the first one Flavorwire shows on my office wall: Musicians and READ posters. (They didn't know why Sting was dressed as he was. I'd direct them to a movie called "The Bride".)
- Scholastic has begin a Global Literacy Campaign, and I love their slogan: "Read Every Day. Lead a Better Life."
- I like this New Zealand bookstore's delivery method.
- BuzzFeed's Unusual Bookstore Sections had me thinking up a few of my own.
- Mental Floss' What 10 Classic Books Were Almost Called.
- Dominoes played by a used bookstore chain here in Arizona.

There you have it! I hope you found one or two that tickled your fancy. Don't forget to stop by next week when I'll have a fresh batch of links for your surfing pleasure. See you then!
Cathy - Thanks for this roundup :-). You're going to love Coffee Rings Everywhere! It's one of my must-stops on my daily blog rounds.
ReplyDeleteGreat selection, as always. I especially love the bookstore dominoes = how cool! Also, the unusual bookstore sections made me laugh a few times. hehe
ReplyDeleteI love the variety of links you've provided, and how nicely they're categorized! Lots of leisurely browsing for a Saturday afternoon.
ReplyDeleteInteresting links Cathy ... particularly the Facebook apps one. I do like their word games apps which I play with my daughter (whom you now know is Wayfaring Chocolate). Hmmm...should I be worried?
ReplyDeleteAlso have been meaning to tell you that I love to play the Match-up game whenever I come to your site! I usually get them right but not without some thought first - good for the brain to think through words that are often semi-familiar, that you think you know the meaning until you are confronted with them.
Are you one who's excited about the Twain autobiography? I am!
ReplyDeleteThanks for bringing us the 'cream of the crop' in links, Cathy!
Ah, I like that slogan! "Read every day. Lead a better life." In this home, we do!
ReplyDeleteGreat links as always Cathy...I really appreciate your selections as I always find something new to enjoy :)
ReplyDeleteOh fun link s- I am off to check a couple of these out!
ReplyDeleteMargot-- I got lost in that blog reading all the wonderful posts!
ReplyDeleteAmy-- Those were two of my favorites, although I'm certainly glad I wasn't one of the designated cleaner uppers after the dominoes video!
Erin-- I'm glad you're enjoying them!
Sue-- It seemed to be only the most popular games that were the villains. And I believe they've said they've rectified the problems. Also-- thanks for letting me know that I'm not the only one who's playing the word game on my sidebar!
Dawn-- Yes, I am excited about the Twain autobiography!
Dorte-- This home, too!
TBG-- I'm glad. :)
Sheila-- Great!
