Weekly Link Round-Up

I fell off the wagon again and ordered some books, so there's going to be a huge Mailbox Monday post to write up. Ah well... I learned at my librarian mother's knee that one of the joys in life is the opening of boxes of new books.

What really made the headlines here this week was The Storm. California has the unfortunate habit of sharing some of its nastiest weather with us folks here in Arizona. (Must be payback for thousands of us spending summers on their beaches.) High winds, torrential rains and golfball-sized hail struck here at Casa Kittling. I literally had to cover my ears to drown out the noise of the hail hitting the house and windows. The yard and pool were both flooded as well. Fortunately there's no hail damage to anything, and Denis is a pro at cleaning mud and debris out of the pool. Lots of other places here in the Phoenix area were not so lucky-- especially the places that received tennis ball sized hail!

Enough yakking about the weather. Let's get on with the links!

  1. It is scary that a women killed an Internet commenter, but I want to know why they are making a deal about her driving for four hours. Surely the most important thing is that she killed someone? Weird reporting.

  3. One good thing about falling off this particular wagon is that it only hurts your bank account. :D

  5. Can't wait to see what books you got! Glad to hear you didn't have any major damage due to weather too.

I loved the article on lit tattoo's. I've been considering getting a lit tattoo as my next one, I just haven't decided on something yet. I checked my library to see if they had the book mentioned, and of course they don't. grrr. I might just have to try and find it at a local store and browse it.

  6. Jackie-- Yes, you'd almost think the reporter was from someplace like the UK where gas is so frightfully expensive and long journeys by car much less common! Whatever the reason, the most important fact is that someone died.

    Rhapsody-- You're welcome!

    Barbara-- This is true! ;)

    Erin-- Why, thank you! :)

  7. I read the article and I don't think she actually killed him, although she certainly meant to. The police found her waving the gun and making threats, so you'd think they could have stepped in before she fired maybe?

I must admit, the comments under the article were just as strange. Anonymity seems to bring out the beast in people.

  8. Kris-- Good luck on choosing the perfect tattoo!

Susan-- There's an uncomfortably large portion of the world's population that seems to thrive in anonymity... one of the reasons why I no longer allow anonymous comments on my blog. :(

  9. Wow, I can't believe that lady killed a commenter... also, I love that article about why you shouldn't buy an eReader, but he has no stats so take the survey. And the survey proves the opposite of what his article says ;)

  10. Amy-- It's fun to notice stuff like that. :)

  11. That's all for the links, she says. And here I have just spent the last half hour reading through them and clicking onward further from them to others! You are a dangerous lady for my blogging time - but no matter the duration, it is always productive reading.
