Weekly Link Round-Up

It's been a busy week here, and I've found lots of goodies to share!

Books in the News
  • It seems that French teenagers have the jump on the rest of the world. The number of readers in this age group in France have increased lately, due to the popularity of Stephenie Meyers' Twilight series. Want to know which book they're turning to next? Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights. You can read the article in its entirety here. Seems to me that the people who were complaining about the Twilight books being trash and setting poor examples for youth should take heart at this news...unless they have something against Wuthering Heights as well.
  • The Guardian told us this week that the British Library doesn't do a very good job keeping track of its books. You can read about that here.
  • I have this "thing" for post-apocalyptic fiction. Abebooks has an article about 20 books that fit the bill. Some of them I've read, others I haven't.
Technical Stuff
  • If you're a member of Technorati, they've introduced some major enhancements. You can read about them here.
  • I know that several of us book bloggers are devoted Tweeters. Here's an article about 10 Twitter tools to effectively manage your followers.
  • Do you use Gmail? Did you know about Gmail Tasks? You can learn more about it here.
  • To continue with Twitter, here's an article about 20+ Extremely Useful Twitter Tools.
  • I love Blogger Buster, and Amanda has an article about how to add "Tweet This" links to your Blogger template.
  • How many of you realize that it's important that your blog shows correctly in different browsers? Just because it shows correctly in Internet Explorer 7 or Firefox 3 doesn't mean it's going to show correctly in the other major browsers. Here's an article about the imminent arrival of Internet Explorer 8. Is your blog ready?
Contest
  • I know that many of you believe in supporting your local independent bookstores. Did you know that Joe Hill is conducting a Love Your Indie Contest on his blog that runs through March 31? Check here for details! (Now...where's my Poisoned Pen receipt???)
Fun Stuff
  • The Reading Copy Book Blog from the staff of Abebooks has a fun article in which they try to guess what books some of their favorite literary characters would buy...and why.
  • The Blog Herald has a funny article about making mistakes in blog posts and the reactions the mistakes get.
  • Want to adopt a little-used word? LisaLynne of minds alive on the shelves shows us where to go to stake our claims!
That's it for this week. See you next Sunday!

  3. Hi Cathy! I love your weekly roundup. I thought the "Twilight" stats were particularly interesting! I think it's terrible that someone would write something so rude on your blog. Unlike real life, if you don't like something, you always have the option to click on that little red X. I think that commenter is pretty much a spineless spreader of negative energy. :)

  5. Sheri--evidently I spoke ill of his favorite author. Oh well. I think he should grow up!

Beth--Great! I hope you found some useful things!

Wormz--I agree with you about both the Twilight stats and Mr. Negativity. What a loser!

Kara--I'm glad you liked them, and I hope you found something useful!

  6. To echo the previous comments, this is a great section. The blog/browser issue is something I've struggled with a bit. Glad I came across you via Twitter.
