Weekly Link Round-Up

My computer time has been curtailed a bit this week due to a very welcome house guest. When it's time for him to head back to Washington state, I just may lock him in the guest room! Curtailed or not, I did find some gems to share with all of you. Let's see what my bag of goodies holds this week....

Goodies & Info for Your Blog:
  • A gravatar, or globally recognized avatar, is an image that follows you from site to site appearing beside your name when you do things. Avatars help identify your posts on blogs and web forums, so why not on any site? I know that when I leave comments on some blogs, I'm faceless. If you're interested in having a little image that follows you wherever you go, you can go here. Signing up is free.
  • The Button Effect is a website that will help you make buttons for your blog--for free.
  • Here is an article on how bloggers can make the most of Twitter.
  • Ever wondered why having your contact information on your blog is so important? Paula Krapf wrote an excellent article about it here.
  • Book bloggers such as Alyce of At Home With Books immediately took Paula's advice and posted actual book review policies on their blogs along with their contact information. This is something that I intend to get done as soon as possible.
  • Saundra Mitchell wrote an excellent article about an author's viewpoint on Advance Reader Copies.
  • ProBlogger has an article that explains how to optimize your post title tags so that they're easier for search engines to pick up. Instructions are given for three different blogging platforms.
Fun Stuff
  • If you like mystery writer Laura Lippman, head on over to Larramie's blog, Seize a Daisy, where she talks about one of Lippman's stories that was serialized in The New York Times Magazine and lists all the chapters in order so it's easier for you to read. Thanks, Larramie!
  • Want to know which celebrities you look like? Head on over to My Heritage, upload a photo of yourself, and let them do their magic!
  • Just how much have you learned about dysfunctional families in your reading? Take this quiz at The Guardian and find out!
  • It was quite a week for Kathy at Bermudaonion's Weblog. Not only was she featured here at Kittling: Books on Scene of the Blog, she made an appearance at Ramya's Bookshelf for a great new feature Ramya has: Book Lover's Recommendations!
That's it for now. Check back next Sunday when I'll have a whole new herd of links that I've rounded up on the range!

  5. Very useful links indeed. I just came back online a few days ago after my travels and am working my way round my fave blogs to see if I have any chance of catching up just a little. Unfortunately, I still need to unpack one suitcase, sort the mail and many other things, plus our apartment has begun smelling funky. If only I knew where the smell came from.

  6. Thanks, everyone--I'm glad you're enjoying the links!

Dorte--my own reading is a bit more dysfunctional than I thought. I scored much higher than I believed I would!

Louise--I hope you discovered the source of the funky smell!
