Mailbox Monday-- The Tortoise Books Finally Arrived!

It's a good thing that I always use Saturday as the cut-off for this post because I have a visit to my favorite bookstore planned for Sunday. (I'm taking along a strong male to help haul everything out to the car!) This week saw me mail 15 books to new homes. I made a quick stop at a Barnes & Noble after having lunch out on Thursday which netted me three books, and my mailbox had a total of ten books for the week. Here's the scoop:

--Homicide in Hardcover by Kate Carlisle (B&N), the first in a new mystery series about Brooklyn Wainwright, a book restorer.

--Dead in the Scrub by B.J. Oliphant (PBS), the first in the Shirley McClintock mystery series set in Colorado that were recommended by one of my favorite bloggers, Lesa of Lesa's Book Critiques.

--Weeping on Wednesday by Ann Purser (PBS), part of the Lois Meade mystery series about a British house cleaner.

--Theft on Thursday by Ann Purser (PBS), another Lois Meade book.

--Fear on Friday by Ann Purser (PBS), yet another Lois Meade book.

--The Cold Blue Blood by David Handler (PBS), the first in the Berger and Mitry mystery series about a curmudgeonly New York film critic and State Police Lieutenant Desiree Mitry, who sounds every bit as much of a "character" as Mitch the film critic.

--Phoenix Island by Charlotte Paul (PBS), one of those "end of the world" books that I love so much that was recommended to me by a fellow blogger whose name I've forgotten. (Sorry! If you see this, shout out so that I can give credit where credit is due!)

--Anarchy and Old Dogs by Colin Cotterill (B&N), a mystery in one of my favorite series about Dr. Siri, the seventy-something national coroner of Laos.

--DeKok and the Somber Nude by A.C. Baantjer (PBS), the first in a new-to-me mystery series set in the Netherlands.

--The Brass Verdict by Michael Connelly (PBS), the latest in the series about one of my all-time favorite characters: Harry Bosch.

--The Reunion by Simone van der Vlugt (PBS), another mystery by a Dutch crime fiction writer.

--Apache Trail by Richard L. Powers (B&N), one of the Images of America series of which I'm very fond. The Apache Trail is one of the best drives to take here in the spring to see wildflowers.

--Only Opal, the Diary of a Young Girl edited by Jane Boulton and illustrated by Barbara Cooney (PBS). Born around 1900, Opal was orphaned and brought up by foster parents in Oregon. These are excerpts from the diary that she kept.

That's it! If you'd like to join this fun meme or if you'd just like to see what new books other participants have received, click on that hungry-looking mailbox at the top of this post to be taken to Marcia's The Printed Page!

  6. I have seen several recommendations of Reunion recently. I have decided to borrow it, but I cannot make up my mind whether I should buy the English translation or try if my Dutch is good enough.
