Mailbox Monday--More Out Than In

Last week I mailed twelve books to new homes and received six. Here's what arrived in my mailbox last week:

--The Dollhouse Murders by Betty Ren Wright, a Young Adult book about a dollhouse with a secret. (PBS)

--The Reader by Bernhard Schlink, is billed as "a story of love and secrets, horror and compassion, unfolding against the haunted landscape of postwar Germany." (PBS)

--The Spice Box by Lou Jane Temple, an historical mystery about a spice box that's passed down from chef to chef through several generations. The book also contains authentic recipes from the kitchens of 1860's New York City. (PBS)

--Pride and Predator by Sally S. Wright, the second in the Ben Reese mystery series. (PBS)

--King's Fool: A Notorious King, His Six Wives, and the One Man Who Knew Their Secrets by Margaret Campbell Barnes. This is an ARC from Danielle at Sourcebooks, whom I met through Book Blogs at Ning.

--Pemberley Manor: Jane Austen's Pride & Prejudice Continues by Kathryn L. Nelson. This is another ARC from Danielle. Since I'm currently reading These Three Remain by Pamela Aidan, which tells the story through Darcy's eyes, I'm glad I have until April to review this!

  1. Hi Cathy,
I have also gotten 'King's Fool' and I am very curious to read it. I wanted to know more about Will Somers after I had read 'Queen's Fool' by Gregory so this will just be the book. It'll fun to compare our thoughts on it I think.

  2. I had more go out than come in last week, too. Of course, the books that went out of here will come back - I just lent them to a friend.

  3. Cathy - it looks like you received some great books! I love Pride and Prejudice, and the following books from other authors - it is so fun to see what others create for those characters!

The Spice Box sounds interesting. I can't wait to see what you think on it!

Congrats on getting 12 out of the house. :)

  4. Good for you! I'm so bad about cleaning out my books. I'm goign to have to do that soon. Maybe I'll have a big giveaway for the many ARCs I've been collecting.

  6. You've received a lovely stack of books! The Dollhouse Murders sounds interesting - I'm not sure why, but I've always loved books that involve dollhouses, and if it's a mystery, that's even better!

Looking forward to hearing what you think of Pemberley Manor, too.

  7. Lilly--Tudor England is one of my favorite periods of history, so when Danielle offered, I didn't turn her down!

Kathy--I don't count the ones that I give my best buddy Helen because I know they'll be coming back!

Wendi--I tend to be very wary of the Austen "fan fiction". I love Austen, and not everyone does a good imitation. Aidan's are quite good.

Alyce--I have a good friend who's a mystery fanatic like I am, and I always pass my mystery ARCs along to her.

"AvisAnn"--thanks! I love the Sonoran Desert, so I thought I should use some sort of graphic that reflected where I live.

"MsBookish"--dollhouses have always intrigued me, too. And I always perk up at a mystery!

  9. I have the Dollhouse Murders buried in my TBR mountain somewhere. I'll watch for your review on Pemberley Manor. I love Jane Austen. I've read some of the continuations - some I liked, some not so much.

  10. Well, you're making progress in the TBR pile, that's great news!
