Cathy's Top Ten Reading Lists of 2008

As I said in an earlier post, I had 23 books graded A+ to whittle down until they fit comfortably in two lists of ten each. I love mysteries, so I always make one list just for that genre. The second list of ten is for all genres combined. In the past, making these lists has been rather easy. The stand-outs really stood out. Whittling this year's bumper crop of excellent books was painful, and for the first time I have two authors with two books each.

Without further ado, here are my lists of Top Ten Reads for 2008 (in no particular order):

What are some of the best books you've read in the past year? This inquiring mind is always looking for recommendations!

  4. I haven't read any of those books, but I did treat myself to The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo when I was Christmas shopping. A little present from me to me.

  5. Loved the photo at the top. I want to climb in and be a part of it.

Loved your lists. I read The Curious Incident of the Dog in The Night Time some time ago but remember really liking it. Perhaps I shall reread it.

Here are the books I gave an A too in my 2008 books read:

When You Are Engulfed in Flame by David Sedaris

A Three Dog Life by Abigail Thomas

We Need to Talk about Kevin by Lionel Shriver

The Post-Birthday World by Lionel Shriver

The Life of Pi by Yann Martel

Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert

Wow! Didn't even get 10 ... must be choosier about what I read in 2009!

  6. I have several of those in Mt TBR so I will have to seek them out. The only book from your lists that's also on mine is The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo - what a great book. The 2nd book in the series is out here now so I have bought it and plan to read it some time in January.

  7. I plan to compile my list and post it tomorrow. I am pretty sure Craig Johnson will be somewhere on my top ten list this year. :-)

I am looking forward to one day reading something by Denise Mina. Stieg Larsson's book is another one I hope to eventually get to. And I will definitely be reading Johann Teorin's book this next year.

    Great list, Cathy!
