Tuesday Thingers: Ye Olde Stuff

LT Things-- t-shirts, bags, cue cats-- are you into the "stuff"? Do you use a cuecat to enter your books, or do you enter them manually? What do you think of the stuff?

I enter all my books manually. Due to my work, I'm a "ten-key" so typing in long series of numbers without mistakes is no problem for me. A friend did give me a barcode scanner, but I have yet to use it. One of these days....

As far as the stuff, it's nice, but when you're paying bills and saving for a month-long trip to the UK like I am, it's extremely easy to resist buying any of it. As a rule I'm not the type of person who likes to wear or carry advertising.
If other people do, that's fine with me.

  1. I never did get a cue cat either. I entered everything by hand, which worked out fine for me. Gave me an excuse to take a closer look at my book collection.

  2. It helped me take a closer look at mine, too, Wendy. Something else that really made me start scrutinizing it was working on book covers. I need to get back to doing that!

  3. My book covers are definitely inaccurate...

  4. I don't wear/use logo stuff either, and I'm not into buying junk. All of our money goes to college tuition for our son.

  5. Wow! A month in the UK sounds wonderful - definitely something worth saving for. Our Cue-cat got a real work-out when we first got it. And it certainly made entering our newer books much easier. But now that I'm entering older books without barcodes, I'm afraid the Cat might be in permanent retirement.

  6. Cathy - I agree about saving the money! The cue cat might be "worth it" for someone who has stacks of books to enter, but that $15 added up with other items you pass on buying can really help with your trip expenses!

  7. I don't wear too many logo things either.

  8. It does get pretty easy to speed through typing in numbers if you get used to it. I used to be in practice, but am not so quick anymore.

    UK trip sounds wonderful!

  9. Another who enters books manually!

  10. The cue-cat was a must-have for me, I was a tomboy growing up and at one time or another broke most my fingers leaving me with killer arthritis by the age of eighteen.

I'm not into logo-wearing (unless it's for the charities I support) so the tee's and hats aren't something I'm interested in.

  12. I don't really wear logos either, but if I was going to I think having something book related would be fun.

  14. Once again, I will confess to owning a LT shirt.
Somehow, I don't see it as advertising but rather think that it says more about me. And I work at a place with a very casual dress code.

  15. Caite--I have to admit that my feelings about wearing "advertising" are undoubtedly colored by my job. I work for Target and have to wear khaki and red everyday. I am NOT the dress code type of person. On days that I don't work, I refuse to wear any identifying colors, words or logos! LOL

And the rest of you who've commented on our planned trip...Denis and I have gone to the UK twice since we've been married. (I'm the first member of my family to ever have a passport.) We stayed for three weeks the second trip (April 2007) and it still wasn't long enough, so that's why we're trying for an entire month. We've found the best way for us is to rent a cottage in an area. Next trip, there will be two weeks in two different cottages so we can visit Denis' family, one week on the Isle of Skye in Scotland, and one week for moving from Point A to Point B.

I have a blog for my travel tales and photos. If you're interested, you're more than welcome to visit Kittling: Travel.
