Tuesday Thingers--Popular This Month?

The Marvelous Marie asks: Popular this month on LT: Do you look at this list? Do you get ideas on what to read from it? Have you read any of the books on the list right now? Feel free to link to any reviews you've done as well.

To tell you the truth, I have so little problem finding books to read that I've never taken a look at this feature on LibraryThing. Books find their way to this house so easily that I almost have to beat them off with a stick. My reading tastes seldom follow what's popular, so I don't pay as much attention to that as I probably should. I usually choose books by reading a short synopsis and by the recommendations of a few friends who share the same reading DNA.

Here's the list and my answers:

1. The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman. I really like Gaiman, so I know I'll get to this one sooner or later!

2. Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World by Vicki Myron. I'm at the top of the list for this one at Paperback Swap.

3. Nation by Terry Pratchett. I tried reading one of Pratchett's books, and really couldn't get into it.

4. Brisingr by Christopher Paolini. I read Eragon and was so annoyed by the number of times the kid was bashed in the head that I lost all interest in the series. If it had been real life with that number of head injuries, he'd be a vegetable.

5. Anathem by Neal Stephenson. Haven't heard a thing about this one.

6. American Wife: A Novel by Curtis Sittenfeld. Pardon me if my political beliefs are showing, but I can't drum up any interest in a novel based on the life of Laura Bush!

7. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer. I'm moving up to the top of the list at Paperback Swap for this one.

8. The Story of Edgar Sawtelle: A Novel by David Wroblewski. Another one on my Paperback Swap wish list.

9. Any Given Doomsday by Lori Handeland. Haven't got a clue!

10. Eclipse (The Twilight Saga, Book 3) by Stephenie Meyer. Gee, the only one I've read! I've read the entire series now because a good friend raved about them so much. I had mixed reactions to them.

  1. I like the picture I have of you beating off books with a stick! Quite a few of those books just do not appeal to me. My answer is here.

  2. Ha! That's another good reason for me to continue to stay away from the Eragon series!

  3. I've read Dewey and Guernsey. The only other book on that list that interests me is The Graveyard Book.

  4. Can I borrow your stick? I definitely need something to keep this TBR pile from getting any bigger. I really don't know much about any of the books I haven't read on the list, except Anathem. I know that one's almost a thousand pages long, so it's absolutely not one I'm likely to read.

  5. Wow - looks like you will be getting quite a few of these eventually from PBS - I didn't know you could check your standing over there! I'm heading over to see about my growing wish list!

  7. Thanks for the information on PBS Cathy - Yikes!! Some of those books I think I'm in the 400's on the waiting list - lol! I wish I was better at keeping my list updated and sending out books!! I'll get there - I think PBS is a really good resource.

  8. Lol - your comment on Brisingr made me think of all those NHL hockey players who had permanent concussions.

This is a feature that I think is neat because I am interested in seeing how often it changes, but all the books listed today were ones I see in other bestseller lists.

  9. LOL, after reading your comment I may have to change my mind about reading Eragon. I am particular when it comes to what kind of fantasy books I will read because it's not my favorite genre.

  10. Yeah, I need to borrow your stick also! I sure don't need help finding books, they just seem to appear!!!

  11. I don't think there's a stick big enough to help me with that problem.lol I hope you get the Guernsey and Edgar Sawtelle books because they are both excellent stories. And the only ones on the list I've read and reviewed. I won a copy of Dewey so I will be reading that too. My post on this is late but it's up.
