Mailbox Monday--Katie, Bar the Door!

Nine books left here on their way to new homes last week, but I did fall off the wagon. You see, I had a coupon for Bookcloseouts, and not only that, they sent me an email telling me about FREE SHIPPING. What's a bookaholic to do under such pressure? Naturally--I placed an order. It arrived last week. (2 mass markets, 2 trade papers and 3 hardcovers for $33.) Nine books out. Eighteen books in. Here's the lowdown:

--Falling Down by David Cole, the latest entry in one of my favorite mystery series about computer hacker Laura Winslow, set here in Arizona. (Bookcloseouts)

--Jack Knife by Virginia Baker, a novel about Jack the Ripper. (Bookcloseouts)

--The Last Templar by Michael Jecks, the first in the Knights Templar mystery series. Recommended by a friend and fellow mystery addict. (Paperback Swap)

--Last Seen in Aberdeen by M.G. Kincaid, the second Sergeant Mornay mystery. (Paperback Swap)

--Murder in Pug's Parlour by Amy Myers, the first in a new-to-me British mystery series. (Paperback Swap)

--Calling Out for You by Karin Fossum, an Inspector Sejer mystery. (Bookcloseouts)

--Hatchet by Gary Paulsen, a Newbery Award winner about a young boy being the sole survivor of a plane crash who has nothing but the clothes on his back and a hatchet...and he's got to find his way out of the Canadian wilderness. (Paperback Swap)

--Dirty Spanish by Juan Caballero, a book of everyday slang that will come in handy here in Phoenix. (ARC/Mini Book Expo)

--Borderlands by Brian McGilloway, the first in an Irish mystery series recommended by the woman who's requested so many of my books through Paperback Swap. (Paperback Swap)

--The Private John Lennon: The Untold Story from his Sister, by Julia Baird. (ARC/Mini Book Expo)

--I Love the Sound of Breaking Glass by Paul Charles, the second in the Inspector Christy Kennedy mystery series. (Bookcloseouts)

--High Priestess by David Skibbins, the second in the "Tarot Card" mystery series. (Bookcloseouts)

--Lady in Boomtown: Miners and Manners on the Nevada Frontier by Mrs. Hugh Brown. (Paperback Swap)

--What the Dead Know by Laura Lippman, a mystery that's swept the awards this year. (Bookcloseouts)

--The Devil's Star by Jo Nesbo, the second in the Detective Harry Hole mystery series. (Bookcloseouts)

--Bangkok Haunts by John Burdett, the third of the Sonchai Jitpleecheep mysteries set in Thailand. (Bookcloseouts)

--Christopher Lowell's Seven Layers of Design by Christopher Lowell. Hey! It's not a mystery! (Paperback Swap)

--Echoes from the Dead by Johan Theorin, a Scandinavian mystery that's been getting raves in the UK. (ARC/LibraryThing Early Reviewer program)

Whew! I'm done. Thought I was going to get carpal tunnel there for a while! If you'd like to see what other people got in their mailboxes last week, head on over to The Printed Page!

  4. The Devil's Star is really good. I read each of Nesbo's books as they come out in translation and they are very good mysteries. Enjoy.
