Booking Through Thursday--Seasonal Reading Disorder?

Autumn is starting (here in the US, anyway), and kids are heading back to school–does the changing season change your reading habits? Less time? More? Are you just in the mood for different kinds of books than you were over the summer?

The change of the seasons doesn't change my reading habits at all. That probably hinges on two facts: (1) I don't have children or the sort of job that has seasonal differences, and (2) I live in Phoenix, which means that the seasons are basically recognized by the waxing and waning of the temperature. I read the same sort of books throughout the year, and the only major difference as the seasons change is where I read. When the heat waxes, I'm sitting in the pool in the shade close to a waterfall. When the heat wanes, I'm either sitting outside by the pool or inside on a daybed in front of the fireplace. Boring, eh?

  1. That's not boring at all. I would like to have a pool to sit by! :) San Francisco doesn't really have fall foliage and our summer is known for the fogginess and sometimes coldness. Seasons don't affect my reading habits, although I'd put aside the lighter reads and make room for meatier literature.

  2. I just change location. Summer = somewhere air conditioned; Fall/winter/spring = by the pond.

  3. Not even my location changes. Whether I have the air conditioner or heater on might though. ;-)

  4. Bikerpup: you don't have killer skeeters by that pond??

Wendy: And perhaps how many furry critters are sharing your reading space? :-)

Matt: I just wish I had a heated pool, then I'd be sitting in it to read all year round!

  5. I have tons of goldfish and koi, as well as a turtle, so they keep the skeeters from hatching in the pond. It's been a hot dry summer here in So. Cal, so there aren't too many bugs (have to be careful at dusk, though).

  6. Not boring at all. Having seen those locations first hand, I can appreciate the beauty and comfort of them both. :-)

  7. Yeah, Mike--I'm an only child, so I don't share with too many folks! LOL
