Abandoned Books?

Last year more than 7,000 books were abandoned in Travelodge hotels across the United Kingdom says the Guardian in a recent article. I have to admit that after reading the list of the top ten left-behind books, there was only one that I would bother to read. Personally, I've never left a book behind during any of my travels. Now...I've forgotten to pack the cameras before Denis and I left on a trip to Virginia once, but never my books. I suppose that reveals something about my priorities, doesn't it?

What about you? Have any of you ever left a book behind when you're traveling?

  1. Hmmm, can't think of ever forgetting a book. I almost always have at least one with me but don't always pull it out either.

  2. I bought my first house this year, but before that I moved from apartment to apartment every year or so, so keeping a big book collection wasn't practical. I would only buy books if I already knew I loved them, or if they were by one of my favorite authors. For the rest, I would borrow them from the library. I would occasionally finish a book too soon on vacation and have to pick one up in the airport. Those I often leave in hotels. Many smaller hotels and B&Bs encourage it, as other book lovers might enjoy it if they run out of their own reading materials.

  3. By the way, have you checked out this blog: http://judgeabook.blogspot.com/ ? She hasn't updated it in a few days, but I figure those of you who love books can relate to bad covers. Very, very entertaining!!

  4. Hey, Bikerpup, two comments: (1)Now that I think of it, I have purposely left a book behind--on the bookshelf in the Laundry Cottage on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. (2) Thank you so much for that link, it's hilarious! I've added it to my Google reader.
