I did read it six or so years ago, but I don't remember it. Time for a reread.
ReplyDeleteSounds like it.
DeleteMy God. Better the Blood is such a good book. I finished it and I'm in shock and anger over the British mistreatment of the Maori people in New Zealand. This book conveys the abuse and the emotions of those who were and are oppressed, denied their land and rights. I told a friend who just bought it and mentioned it to another reader friend. Now what to do? To read a routine book seems without meaning.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you enjoyed the book, Kathy!
DeleteEnjoyed? I was compelled to keep reading, then do research. I expected a sequel, but apparently not. What a story. What a history.
ReplyDeleteI seem to remember Bennett telling Barbara Peters that he was working on another one. Maybe I'm mistaken.
DeleteYes. Bennett is working on a second book and plans a series set in different locations.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kathy. As a reminder, comments on posts that are older than two weeks must be approved by me before they show up on the blog. I am in the middle of non-stop medical appointments, so I haven't been at my computer. Sorry for the delay in getting your comments posted.
DeleteMichael Bennett is working on a second book, planning to write a series. The second will be set in Hana Westerman's hometown. However, I am now spoiled after reading his book. I picked up two books, and neither grabbed me; they seemed superficial.
ReplyDeleteYes, Better the Blood is an excellent book that stays with the reader long after it's read.
DeleteYou are not mistaken. Michael Bennett is writing a sequel and is planning a series.
ReplyDeleteAt least I know my memory isn't shot.
DeleteA friend in Houston who purchased Bennett's book just called to tell me how fantastic his book is and that she could not put it down. We eagerly await book two.
ReplyDeleteMe, too!
DeleteI have to read J.A. Jance's book listed here. I've got a book by Marcie Rendon on a similar topic on library hold. Sad topic.
ReplyDeleteYes, it is. (I had to get online to pay bills, and thought I'd caught up with comments. Hopefully, it won't mean that I get a ton more to respond to.)
