Scene of the Blog-- Caite of A Lovely Shore Breeze

This week we're in the great state of New Jersey for a visit with Caite of A Lovely Shore Breeze. I don't think she could have chosen a more evocative name for her blog. All I have to do is see those words, and my mind is no longer in the Sonoran Desert. I enjoy Caite's wit and way with words, and her blog is the place where I go to get my fix of lighthouses and a dark and handsome guy named Bandit. (Bandit even has his own blog now!) If you haven't visited her blog before, today is a good day to do so!

Just where does Caite do her blogging? Does she blog on the beach? Let's find out! (Don't forget that you can click on the photos to view them full size!)

Yes, there it is, the site of creative process. Where is the desk, you might ask, the shelves, the work surface, a pen, some paper? Well, there is none. I sit there...it is a recliner, so the feet will be up...and the laptop (you might make it out sitting on the chair in my absence) sits on my lap on its little laptop desk. Which is shaped like a Giant Wooden Kidney Bean, now that I look at it. No place for notes, so I don't write any, although I do place those post-it flags in my pages to mark something interesting.

By the end of the book, when I look back at them, few still seem interesting.

Here is my main bookcase. I have a lovely view of it from my chair. Knowing all those books doubled shelved on the bottom...and the ones in the pile on the left...and the ones stacked next to my chair...and we will not mention the ones I moved upstairs...knowing all of them are unread makes me feel all cozy.

Lots of lovely books, just waiting, so patiently, for me.

Wow-- what a space! The colors of that chair glow in the lamplight, and I love the book stack by her chair. (That's a great end table, too!) And I wonder who's responsible for the giant kidney beans so many of us have?

The light above the bookcase means that there's a serious reader in residence because it's strong enough not only to be able to read the titles of the books, but strong enough to sit in that chair and read. I would imagine that most of you, like me, want to do a "Thursday Next" and jump into that photo so we can look at all the titles, pull out each one that interests us, and take a few of them for a spin in that black chair.

Thanks so much for allowing us this glimpse into your creative space, Caite. It's lovely!

Which section of the globe will our Inner Peeping Toms be trotting to next week? That's for me (and the blogger) to know...and you to find out. Don't forget-- we have a date next Wednesday!

  2. Oooh! A floor to ceiling bookshelf? And a big comfy chair? No wonder Caite rips out so many witty posts, even though sometimes she is doing them after a long day (night) at work!

  4. you can all have them, the bookcases that is.

go to Ikea, get the Billy bookcase system, in medium brown, with the height extension unit, a couple of Benno DVD towers, spend a day with a screwdriver putting them together, bolt them all into one unit and fill with books and add the magic dust. Da Da!

You will have to get the books on your own....

  5. What a warm and inviting place to blog. I thought I was the only one to use post-its when reading. How nice to know I'm not alone.

  12. Wow, all this praise, granted most of it for my bookcases and taste in chairs, is going to my head! lol

As to the books on my shelves, and in various piles throughout the house, every book I have on hand and a few that have flown the coop, are listed on Library Thing. Just go to my blog, and click on the "Books From My Library" on the LT widget in the left column....and there you are!

  13. What a warm and cozy blogging area. Obviously we are all jealous. I am going to check out Caite's blog now as I had not yet discovered it. Someone else may need to be bumped off my google reader though to make room. Who will it be ...

  15. I have the Billy shelves from IKEA too, but they are in white and somehow don't look as cool as yours.

  16. I had the white for years, but the brown look so much richer.Aedding the extesion to go to the ceiling helps the builtin look too.

You can see that my books are all very happy on their shelves, smiling and waving their little pages at you all. except the ones double shelved on the bottomn left. they are not happy with the arrangement and complain a lot.

Maybe I need a closeup of that. or not.

  28. Caite-- After surviving 7th grade when 7 of the 35 kids were named Cathy (almost all with K's), I seldom even notice anymore. I also have a tendency to answer to Carol, Cindy, and Karen. =8)
