What self-respecting book blogger could ignore That Artsy Reader Girl's Top Ten Tuesday topic of New-to-Me Authors I Discovered in 2022? Certainly not me!
After going through the list of the books I read last year, the following ten authors jumped right out at me. I've listed them in alphabetical order with links to their websites. Now it's time for me to check out everyone else's lists!
Ellen Byron |
Jack Gatland |
Kate Moore |
Harini Nagendra |
Chris Offutt |
Nita Prose |
Marcie R. Rendon |
Shelby Van Pelt |
Pip Williams |
Matt Witten |
Did any of my choices make your own lists? Do tell!
None of these were on my list for this week, but a couple of them are on my TBR list!
ReplyDeleteNow I'm wondering which ones are on your TBR list! ;-)
DeleteWhat a great list, Cathy, and I love the look of this post - you did good! I want to read The Bangalore Detective Club very much, as well as The Woman They Could Not Silence and The Maid. So much good stuff out there!
ReplyDeleteYes, there is!
DeleteI read Kate Moore's first book (Radium Girls) a few years ago and loved (and hated) it. I have The Woman They Could not Silence on my TBR.

I agree with you about the love/hate aspect of The Radium Girls. You'll find the same thing happening with The Woman They Could Not Silence.
DeleteI've read and enjoyed four of the authors on your list and have a couple of others on my TBR list but I'm unfamiliar with the others.
ReplyDeleteWell, that's over half, so I think we definitely share some reading DNA. :-)
DeleteLooks like you found some great new authors this past year!
ReplyDeleteYes, indeed!
DeleteI've not read any books by these authors as yet - however, several are and have been on my list to try. So many books....read faster, Kay.....
ReplyDeleteMust. Read. Faster. Yep, I know that feeling!
DeleteNita Prose was a new author for me last year, too. And I'm looking forward to reading some of Marcie Rendon's books this year. :D
ReplyDeleteI look forward to your opinion of Rendon, Lark.
DeleteI read new authors: The Bangalore Detectives' Club, The Necklace, Murder on the Red River by Marcie Rendon and Remarkably Bright Creatures. Will continue the Bangalore series and Rendon's. Am reading The Maid right now.
ReplyDeleteI'll be interested in your opinion of The Maid, Kathy,
DeleteMixed reviews. I'm about halfway through, waiting for a breakthrough.
DeleteHopefully, there is one. Fingers crossed.
DeleteI keep wanting to go back to Bleeding Heart Yard or The Local.
DeleteIf you're not enjoying The Maid, don't force yourself to read it!
DeleteI found The Maid perked up about halfway through it, when Molly explains to a cop that all people are important; no one is unimportant. That got the brain cells working, and I remembered Harry Bosch's famous saying, Everybody counts or nobody counts. But then I found that Molly's character opened up and developed a wider view of people and events and her own responsibilities to others, and she broke a lot of stereotypes. And by doing so, she found happiness. I think the first half should have been shorter and tighter. The second half was fine. And good characters rose to the occasion. So I'm glad I read it, but I have to learn speedreading. My reading time is so precious now, and I'm reading more slowly, so I have to be very selective.
DeleteI understand completely.
DeleteThere are a few folks at some of the publishing houses who send me books when I haven't asked for them-- which I've asked them not to do. I just got one today, and I have no interest whatsoever in reading it. Since it's the published copy, I'll just send it to someone who wants to read it through Paperback Swap. But it's annoying. (It's not like I don't have anything to read!)
I finished The Maid, and dived into Bleeding Heart Yard. So happy to get into familiar territory of Elly Griffiths' writing. I have enjoyed some of this and her historical references, but the ease with which she writes, not only about the murders. It's like putting on old shoes and being comfortable.
DeleteShe's literary family.
DeleteYes. Elly Griffiths is that. I'm 3/4 way through Bleeding Heart Yard, and the writing has picked up, with some humor and sarcasm thrown in. I'm not in love with the cast of characters as in the Ruth Galloway series, but the writing is good and the story interesting. And, by the way, there really is a Bleeding Heart Yard in England, with history.
DeleteI know. Griffiths talked about it with Barbara Peters.
DeleteI read two of her books last year, and she become a Must Read author for me.
ReplyDeleteNita Prose should have been on my list this week, too, but I TOTALLY forgot about her. Oops! I loved THE MAID and can't wait to see what's next from Prose. I just read Byron's PLANTATION SHUDDERS and enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteHappy TTT (on a Wednesday)!
Thanks for stopping by, Susan!
DeleteI wish I could read all day, but have to sleep and then write about Roe v. Wade's overturn and what has happened since. Gee, not a lot to say: Not.
ReplyDeleteI found several titles on Oline Cogdill's Best of list. Then there are so many lists to take a second look at.
Yes, there are.
