Scene of the Blog Featuring Lori of Dollycas's Thoughts!

I think this week's featured book blogger and I found each other on Paperback Swap through one of the books we'd read. After finding out that this PBS member had a blog, you know it only took me a few seconds to click on over to take a look.

What I found was Dollycas's Thoughts, the book blog of a joyful woman who loves to share her passion for reading. Giveaways, reading challenges, book reviews, music, author interviews... there is a lot of content on this blog. Since Lori does a much better job of talking about herself and her blog, I'm going to keep quiet and let her take over-- in a second. Before I sit on my hands, I just want to say two things: (1) I hope you take this opportunity to check out Lori's blog and say hello, and (2) Don't forget that you can click on each photo to view it in a larger size. (Always a plus when you're trying to read book spines!) Now let's get to know Lori!

Lori's favorite place to read...and two reading buddies

My absolute favorite place to read is my yard swing on a nice Wisconsin day. Usually the dogs Oreo and Nera Belle are either at my feet or by my side.

My work space is slowly overtaking the kitchen, walk-in closet and top of my dresser.  There are special bookcases for Keeper Books, another for PBS books, my TBR pile can be found on my dresser, my review books have a special stack there too. My giveaway books are on my desk and around my desk.  My swag goodies are in a special drawer.

Lori's work area

My hope is redo one of our bedrooms that has become a catch all for everything into the perfect blog office, with a place for everything and everything in its place.

When I started blogging as a New Year's Resolution on December 31, 2009 I never dreamed what a FABULOUS time I would have.  I started out with my first meme, J. Kaye's It's Monday! What Are You Reading?, which is now hosted by Sheila at Book Journey.  I have met some wonderful bloggers, authors and publicists.  It is such a treat to have something like Facebook available where you can go and converse with your favorite authors and let them know in seconds that you enjoyed their book.  Many have done Guest Posts on my blog and since my favorite genre is Cozy Mysteries I have set aside every Wednesday as Cozy Wednesday and as their release dates get close there are often Special Editions of Cozy Wednesdays on many other days of the week.  The theme of my blog is "Escape With A Good Book" and I think of myself as your travel agent giving you my recommendations of books that are great escapes.

I  like Cheryl's Shining Star, which is hosted by Cheryl of CMash Loves To Read on Sundays and introduces us to new bloggers every week.

I also enjoy meeting non-book bloggers through the Feel Good Friday, and Monday's Music Moves Me memes.  Feel Good Friday is hosted by Ericka, The Girl Next Door Grows UP who is on hiatus now to revamp her blog, but participants are trying to keep it going until she gets back.  It is a wonderful way to wrap up the week.  Monday's Music is hosted by several blogs but the main one is Xmas Dolly.  It never hurts to start out the week with a little music.

Sherlock, the blogging assistant
I am an admitted READING CHALLENGE ADDICT and proud of it.  I have a blogging assistant named Sherlock and I LOVE to share my books so it seems I am always running several giveaways.

In my spare time I am working on a family cookbook, trying to scan in family pictures to make disks for all family members, spending time with my family-- especially my grandson Kaden-- and watching too much television like both Criminal Minds, all the CSI's and Law & Order's and shocker, my guilty pleasures are Keeping Up With The Kardashians and Gene Simmons Family Jewels.

My blog has saved my life, I am partially paralyzed due to a car accident in 2001.  My left side works for the most part, the right side is mostly uncooperative.  I truly thought my life was over but I can fold a book with one hand and read like crazy, but never fast enough for me.  I can type with one hand to share my reviews, recommendations, & random thoughts.  I found some blogs though Paperback Swap and thought I would give it a try and am so glad I did.

And so are we, Lori-- so are we! Your love of people and of books is infectious, and your blog is so much fun to read. Thank you for sharing your creative spaces with us!

Don't forget to stop by next Wednesday when I'll be featuring another book blogger from our worldwide community!

  3. I've read Lori's blog for a long time, probably since soon after she created it. It's always fun to see what she's reading and I love the Monday music thing. Great choice for your weekly Scene, Cathy!

  7. Thank you all for the nice comments. I started a challenge this year JUST FOR FUN to help cut that TBR Pile down and I keep adding because of what I see other people are reading. I usually add the books to my wish list at PBS and just last week 10 books from my wish list arrived at my door. PBS is hazardous to the health of your TBR piles. I may have to do some thinning. lol I can't die until all my books are read!!!! Should live to be at least 100!!!

  10. I just took a quick peek at all the Scenes of the blog before me and if you think I have a lot of bookcases you need to click on the label at the bottom of this post. They are so many people with several, many, lots of bookshelves and all their work spaces look so clean and nice. I wanted to leave a comment on each one but would be here all night but if you haven't you really need to check out the back editions of this feature, some of the spaces will have yo dreaming about shelves and organizing and beautiful views for a very long time.

  11. I'm very impressed with someone who actually has a TBR pile as organized as this! I can only imagine it since my organizational skills are slim and none.

I was smiling at the Keeper Shelf. Since basically if I buy a book or someone gives me a book it's automatically a 'keeper'. Eventually I'm going to run out of space, for sure.

I love your reading buddies. :)

  12. I am a huge fan of paperback swap too so I love that you have a shelf just for the books you've received from PBS!

  13. Kay-- I thought so, too. I was so happy when she said yes!

Barbara-- You're welcome. (And my TBR pile is much larger than Lori's!

Lori-- I'm so glad. You've been a perfect guest! (And I agree-- PBS is deadly for a person's TBR pile!)

    Cheryl-- Thanks!

Marie-- Your comment was music to my ears!

Yvette-- I was the same way, and I did run out of space. Now I don't keep 99% of the books I read. I'm trying to hold on to the shelf space I created! LOL

Leah-- 90% of my TBR pile consists of PBS acquisitions!

  14. What a wonderful uplifting and truly cool look into your little slice of the blogging world Lori, cannot believe all the hard work you do and your reading and blogging buds are irresistibly sweet!

Thanks for having Lori over Cathy, sorry I am late to the party but am sure glad I made it today to read what Lori had to say... She is a genuine credit to the blogging family and am very glad I met her online in 09 and she has really impacted me in a positive way ever since!
