Dorte-- ...Sakura-- I hope we both enjoy her books!

Dorte-- I found my own experience with Father Brown to be a bit hit or miss, but I know others who love him. Somehow I've missed Bolton's Blood Harvest. I'm going to have to remedy that. (And in case you think I missed the "bloodless vicars" remark... I didn't!)

Kay-- I tried one of Greeley's books, but I didn't particularly care for it. Probably yet another case of letting the years pass, then picking up the author again and finding enjoyment! Are any of us the same readers we were a decade ago?

Barbara-- Jacqueline Winspear writes the Maisie Dobbs books, so please don't get yourself (or me for that matter) confused! Yes, Dorte should know a thing or two about bloodless vicars!Cathyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01774383554326288663noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1999659125625323494.post-31590325969411621442011-10-15T11:05:10.370-07:002011-10-15T11:05:10.370-07:00Love Ellis Peters books, and I read one Julia Spen...Love Ellis Peters books, and I read one Julia Spencer-Fleming Maisie Dobbs book so I think I would like her others as well. Dorte cracks me up with her criticism of the "bloodless" vicars. Well, she should know about vicars after all. :)Barbarahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04179027379034179865noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1999659125625323494.post-984547883745719532011-10-15T06:47:02.979-07:002011-10-15T06:47:02.979-07:00I've read and loved Julia Spencer-Fleming'...I've read and loved Julia Spencer-Fleming's series. I have the first Phil Rickman book and understand that his series is quite spooky. Have not read the others. I used to like the Father Blackie (or I think he became a Bishop) by Andrew Greeley. It's been a long time since I read them though.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1999659125625323494.post-64118593702988430012011-10-15T04:54:24.755-07:002011-10-15T04:54:24.755-07:00I should probably try some of the modern series. I...I should probably try some of the modern series. I have tried Father Brown, but found the stories a bit quiet and boring, and several other books featuring priests and vicars have annoyed me (the vicar´s wife) because so many of these literary vicars are bloodless wimps no woman would look at twice ;)

But I read and loved S.J. Bolton´s Blood Harvest recently because it features a vicar who is funny, intelligent and ever so human. They are people too, you know :)Dorte Hhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14535044092722418173noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1999659125625323494.post-60796285151362217442011-10-15T02:16:58.361-07:002011-10-15T02:16:58.361-07:00I haven't tried any of the mysteries by Julia ...I haven't tried any of the mysteries by Julia Spence-Flemming so will be adding her to my wishlist pronto. I've read some of the others and probably like you, have Ellis Peters to thank for my love of historical mysteries!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
