I know I can pass every book that I have along to someone else who will enjoy it-- just one of the ways I behave like a millionaire when I'm not. :-)Cathyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01774383554326288663noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1999659125625323494.post-67999893527255072732016-01-04T19:15:23.539-07:002016-01-04T19:15:23.539-07:00Oh, I see. On the other hand, I gave a favorite author's new book 100 pages last year, but found it too much police procedural and not enough story and character development. But I think I'll do more of this.

I do also feel compelled to finish books I actually buy. Library books are a different story.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1999659125625323494.post-37811155341660777202016-01-04T18:14:03.164-07:002016-01-04T18:14:03.164-07:00I haven't had a problem with putting a book do...I haven't had a problem with putting a book down and moving onto the next for a long, long time, Kathy. I think the record for my doing that is page 8. Life is short, with an inexhaustible supply of reading material.

As for the discrepancy on my map, it counts locations and not book titles. Several of the books I read took place in more than one location.Cathyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01774383554326288663noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1999659125625323494.post-81678762980985408652016-01-04T18:10:16.333-07:002016-01-04T18:10:16.333-07:00I think I'm well on the way to finding that &q...I think I'm well on the way to finding that "first best" book, Lynn. It's been burning a hole in my Kindle since I downloaded it, but I forced myself to leave it be until 2016. It's very interesting to see your categories and how they change.

One point: Your top chart says you read 207 books, however, the global chart lists 250 books. Is that because some books were trilogies with the same titles? The global map is really good and shows how international is your reading.

It's great that you are being more adventurous in your reading, but it's inevitable that there will be more DNF's.
A friend of a certain age says that the older we get, the less we should stick with a book we don't like -- just stop reading and move on to a better book. (She also says to deduct one's age from 100 and then only to give a book the number of pages in the remaining number. I'm giving books a bit more leeway than that, but if I know a book isn't a good fit, I'm putting it down.)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1999659125625323494.post-70350203344340619132016-01-04T15:20:11.631-07:002016-01-04T15:20:11.631-07:00Enjoyed your charts and graphs with the by year co...Enjoyed your charts and graphs with the by year comparison. I know what you mean about setting goals of how many books to read in a year. I did set a goal again this year but don't want the feeling of missing a deadline. I want to enjoy the books and not feel I am behind or ahead. I even thought of not doing it this year but did anyway. I always look forward to seeing which book will be the first to get on your best of year list. Wonder what book it will be this year. I will be looking for it. OK, that being said, nothing else is all that surprising. I think I'm reading slower and slower and I'm OK with that. My goal, which I've shared, for this year. Read from my shelves. So far, so good.
